Hand Crafted Pottery at Museum Store
Oklahoma History Center
Oklahoma City, OK
The Oklahoma History Center Museum Store is happy to be your source for unique, Oklahoma-related gift items. Our most recent addition is hand-crafted pottery created by Oklahomans Bob and Jan Garrett.
Mr. Garrett does hand-building and throwing, while Mrs. Garrett works mainly on the pottery wheel. They both work together on the glazing and firing processes for the pottery. Mr. and Mrs. Garrett are enjoying creating art designed for use, and traveling across the state to showcase their work.
The Garrett's pottery is handmade porcelain and stoneware, and is food and dishwasher safe. These versatile pieces are functional and decorative. We are pleased to offer a selection of their bowls, platters, vases, and trays.
We are excited to share the work of these Oklahoma artists with our members and patrons.
Come and experience these and other unique items at the OHS Museum store. Contact us at (405) 522-5214 with any questions.

Moon Martin
By Nicole Harvey

Critically acclaimed as a Power Pop artist of the late seventies and early eighties, Altus native Moon Martin was notorious for mixing Beatles-style harmonies with new wave sensibilities. A singer, songwriter and guitarist, Martin might be best known for writing "Bad Case of Loving You (Doctor, Doctor)" a top 20 hit covered by Robert Palmer and "Cadillac Walk" recorded by Mink DeVille, although Martin also had hits of his own including, "Rolene" and "No Chance".
"The town I grew up in, Altus...they had a little club called the Coconut Club and my friend's dad was a jute box distributor so his job was to fill that jute box up with records all the time," said Martin of his early musical influences during an interview with Oklahoma Historical Society staff. "I would go down to his shop and he would have just tons of records."

Perfect Gift for the History Lover
With the holidays and the season of gift giving approaching, please consider giving the gift of Oklahoma history to your friends and family this year.
Memberships are vitally important to the Oklahoma Historical Society as we strive to maintain the Oklahoma History Center and our 30 other properties statewide in a manner that will make all Oklahomans proud of their heritage. When you give a gift of membership you help us maintain a standard of quality that allows us to be both a Smithsonian Affiliate and a National Archives Affiliate.
Don't let this season of joy and giving pass without remembering the mission of the Oklahoma Historical Society. Your gift will help OHS collect, preserve, and share the history and culture of the state of Oklahoma and its people. Thank you for your generosity!
If your gift membership is received by December 31st, you may use it as a tax deduction. Please feel free to contact the OHS Membership Office at (405)522-5242 or 1(800)750-4090, if you have any questions about gift memberships or about your personal membership. |
