How to have the best vacation ever

Where to go? When? What to do? Is it better to try somewhere new and exotic, or return to a well-loved spot? Doze on the beach or hike the ancient ruins? Hoard vacation days for a grand tour, or spread them around? Time off is a scarce resource, and as with any scarce resource, we want to spend it wisely.

For example, how long we take off probably counts for less than we think and taking more short trips leaves us happier than taking a few long ones. We're often happier planning a trip than actually taking it. How a trip ends matters more than how it begins, who you're with matters as much as where you go, and if you want to remember a vacation vividly, do something during it that you've never done before.  Create a memory. And though it may feel unnecessary, it's important to force yourself to actually take the time off in the first place - people, it turns out, are prone to procrastinate when it comes to pleasurable things like vacations.

"How do we optimize our vacation?" There are three elements to it - anticipating, experiencing, and remembering. People take vacations for all sorts of reasons beyond pleasure - to learn about new places, to test themselves, or to spend time with their children and family. I hope your vacation this year creates many good memories that you and your family can talk about for years to come.

I appreciate you!

"My history started with Seven Oaks Doors and Hardware 27 years ago when I was employed with the Richmond County Schools. I met Ed Shimpock who was our Seven Oaks rep back then. He had a professional and caring attitude about his customers and he stood behind the quality of his products. He was very active in the Public School Maintenance Association and his involvement in this organization demonstrated his ethical standards and commitment to his customers. Over the years we became friends and our partnership developed so when I came to Richmond Community College, I brought Seven Oaks Doors and Hardware with me. Ned Russell became my sales rep and the great customer service and quality products never missed a beat.  Also, Seven Oaks supports the ACCFO organization of Community Colleges and contributes to its success.  This company has been a cornerstone in my hardware purchases over the years and I can't imagine not doing business with this great organization."
