Who First Suggested That the Turkey Should be our National Symbol?
| |

In a letter to his daughter sent in 1784, Benjamin Franklin suggested that the wild turkey would be a more appropriate national symbol for the newly independent United States than the bald eagle (which had earlier been chosen by the Continental Congress). He argued that the turkey was "a much more respectable Bird," "a true original Native of America," and "though a little vain & silly, a Bird of Courage."
Also, many folks don't realize that lobster, seal, and swans were on the Pilgrims first menu. Over the years we have heard many discussions about how Thanksgiving started. While no record exists of the historic banquet's exact menu, the Pilgrim chronicler Edward Winslow wrote in his journal that Governor Bradford sent four men on a "fowling" mission in preparation for the event, and that the Wampanoag guests arrived bearing five deer. Historians have suggested that many of the dishes were likely prepared using traditional Native American spices and cooking methods. Because the Pilgrims had no oven and the Mayflower's sugar supply had dwindled by the fall of 1621, the meal did not feature pies, cakes or other desserts, which have become a hallmark of contemporary celebrations.
Now that you have this little bit of history to discuss over your Thanksgiving dinner, I want to remind you of how thankful we at Seven Oaks Doors and Hardware are to call you our friends. You have been a blessing to us this past year. We are grateful that you have made us a supplier of choice. We will continue to work to earn your business in the future. Please tell your friends about us and contact us for all your doors, hardware, and toilet partitions needs.
I appreciate you! Ed Shimpock, AHC, VP and General Manager

Before
After We removed (3) 3-0 x 7-0 wood doors and the horizontal and vertical mullions in the frame. We capped the perimeter frame in aluminum and caulked the perimeter. We then installed a new Special-Lite frame and doors, composed of (1) pair of 4-0 x 8-0 SL17 FRP doors with panels, continuous hinges, electrified vertical rod exit devices, new closers and sweeps. We then tied the cardreader into the new electrified exit device. |

American Specialties, Inc. "Turbo-Dri" High Speed Hand Dryer dries hands in as little as 12 seconds. This unit is one of the very few fully adjustable high speed units on the market today. They work especially well in environments with young children and seniors alike. Both groups experience challenges using our competitors' machines due to how loud the sound is and how hard the air blows on your hands.
Unlike old style hand dryer technology that would take 30-45 seconds and cause you to have to wipe your hands on your pants to dry them off. These new style units use 80% less energy than traditional hand dryers, operate much more efficiently, and are more cost effective than paper towels. Consider using a paper towel dispenser 24 hours a day, 365 days per year, with 4,000 "C" fold towels per case, (2) towels per dry episode can cost as much as $1,800.00 annually. These High Speed hand dryers use as little as $82.00 in electrical consumption annually to dry hands in just 10-15 seconds completely. No more ordering of paper towels, no more storage and loading of dispensers, no more waste removal. The saving for your facilities will be thousands of dollars each year.
