| I Think That I Shall Never See, A Poem Lovely as a Tree... | |
What a refreshing time of the year!!!! We are outdoors with short sleeves and starting or rebuilding our gardens. It is a joy to see new birth of a dormant tree as thousands of leaves spread all over its majestic branches giving us shade for the hot summer days ahead. It is an exciting time as we start having outdoor barbeques again with family and friends. We see new growth everywhere. We run and play with the kids as we watch our favorite pet enjoy the great outdoors also. Let's go down to the river bank with a can of worms and a fishing pole to enjoy the beauty of it all as we wet our hooks!! Wow! I get excited just thinking about it.

We get excited here when Roger Hill brings in some of his garden grown Watermelons and other vegetables. Gardening is a skill which also takes time to see the results. My wife and I usually have a small garden because she likes to can tomatoes and green beans.
I like to relate gardening to what we do here at Seven Oaks Doors and Hardware. We plant a lot of seeds throughout the year with our customers. Interestingly enough, it all seems to start coming together this time of year. There is something about spring that creates an exciting business atmosphere. We want to thank you for being friends with whom we like to grow. You are our flowers!! Most of you are quite colorful and bring a lot of enjoyment to us. We want to be there for you also. Please contact us, anytime we can be of service.
I appreciate you!
Ed Shimpock Vice President and General Manager
P.S. Feel free to send any extra vegetables!!!

Gardening Tips from our employees:
| Per Roger Hill, Warehouse Manager:- "Don't plant until the ground is warm, around the first of May."
- "When planting tomato plants, wait 10 days to fertilize. Then scratch in a little fertilizer around plant. Go 6 - 8" from plant, dig small hole and place a small amount of fertilizer in hole and cover."
Per Sue Loy, Product Application Specialist:- Plant potatoes in the "dark nights in March".
- When planting tomatoes, I use post hole diggers to plant as deep as possible so they will not suffer as dramatically from drought. I put about a half cup of powered lime and approximately 1 Tablespoon of Epson Salt in the bottom of each hole. This helps prevent blossom rot.
- Tomatoes and peppers are in the same family, so they draw the same nutrients from the soil, therefore they should never be planted in the same row two consecutive years.
Per Ron Hill, Product Application Specialist:- "As a teenager, I worked for a lady who won many first place awards for her roses and the one thing she had me do on a weekly basis was to cultivate her rose bushes and put discarded brown banana peelings around the base of each plant. She claimed this provided the plant with the extra nutrients that allowed the plant to produce hardier buds and the champion flowers that won her many awards."
