The Event that Inspired the Invention of the Exit Device/Panic Bar
Carl Prinzler was the Manager of the Builders Hardware Department at the Vonnegut Hardware Company in 1903. Prinzler, along with his neighbor Henry DuPont, developed the first "panic bar" device for doors which can be opened from the inside despite being locked on the outside. This idea and subsequently an invention came about as a result of the Iroquois Theater Fire.

Prinzler devoted himself to this invention to ensure another tragedy such as this never happened again. The panic bar was marketed under the Von Duprin name. Von Duprin is a company which makes security related products.

The following is the tragic story that spurred Carl Prinzler to invent the first panic bar (exit device).

"The important parts of a company to me are honesty, the service they provide and having a salesperson that is interested in my needs. I can truly say that Seven Oaks Doors and Hardware meets each of these every day and I appreciate the personalized attention from everyone associated with their company. They care about my business and know that is important to the overall success of Seven Oaks Doors and Hardware. I have purchased doors, hardware, and toilet partitions over the past 9 years with great service and timely delivery. If there were problems, they were resolved quickly. I recently purchased a Schlage Electronics "Bright Blue" access control door system with outstanding support and service from everyone to make the system operational. Seven Oaks Doors and Hardware stands behind what they sell and provides whatever is needed to satisfy the customer."
