Community Appreciation Day
We are slowly rebuilding our Community Appreciation Day event program. On the third Saturday of August we had a really good crowd. Between 400 and 500 people attended to tour inside Air Force Two and several other aircraft.
The Security Forces Squadron provided a working dog demo at 11:15 watched by about 50 people in Commemoration Park.
We announced and ran tower tours every hour plus fill-ins as guides were available. Each tower tour was full - 15 to 20 people at a time. Next Spring we will begin adding other features to the tour so stay tuned.

B-17 History
Our B-17 first became a part of the USAF Museum program at the Air Force Museum, Wright-Patterson AFB. Here is a rare picture of its move to a new hangar there. Do you think this was considered a "Wide Load"? After the B-17G Shoo Shoo Shoo Baby was restored at Dover by the 512th Airlift Wing and flown back to the Air Force Museum we received this B-17G as part of the deal. It's been part of our collection since 1989. |
Annual AMC Museum Foundation Mixer
Are you ready for some plane talk? The AMC Museum Foundation will be hosting our Annual Member Mixer on Friday, 7 September at 1700 (5:00 pm) at the Museum. The event is FREE for members who have joined at the Squadron Commander category and above. All other friends will have an opportunity to join The AMC Museum Foundation that evening, and waive the $10 donation for the event.
The event will begin with free door prize tickets, free hors d'oeuvres, and a pay-as-you-go bar. The Boeing KC-97 Stratofreighter and the Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker will both be open that night, showing the leap from the 1950s technology to what we are using today for refueling America's Air Force. And as a special treat we'll be giving tours through our newest arrival, the VC-9C, better known as Air Force Two!
We purposely schedule very little agenda for the event, in order to let you visit with old friends, and meet new ones, who share your interest in airlift and air-refueling history. There will be drawings for several aviation-type door prizes. The evening's program will wrap up with the drawing for our original David Godek oil painting, From Out of the Past. The lucky ticket holder will also receive a certificate for a FREE sight-seeing flight in a completely restored 1941 Stearman.
