Newt Gingrich 2012
Newt Gingrich visits the AMCM

Shortly before the Delaware Republican primary, Newt and Callista Gingrich made an impromptu visit to the AMC Museum. It was not a campaign stop, just a brief respite in their schedule. They were very interested in our museum and their visit took our other visitors by surprise. Mike was very impressed when the former Speaker of the House answered a question from his wife about when the Berlin Airlift took place. Not too many people would know that off the top of their heads; but then again he does have a Doctorate in European History.

Whether Or Not
The early spring weather has had several benefits for us. The first benefit is that our restoration crews have been making great progress. One crew is assembling the sections of our new Quonset hut while another is disassembling the old General's Travel Module that turned out not to be a useful exhibit. The C-7 crew is finishing up their interior refurbishment work. It looks like a working aircraft now, just like when it was in service. An update on the C-119 will follow this article.

The other big benefit is that our visitors have come to see us early and often, come see what's new and exciting.

C-119 Bomber???

I'll bet that got your attention! While the C-119 was not really intended to be a bomber, it did have bombay doors of sorts and it did drop big,  bomb shaped loads. Even many C-119 crew members that flew them late in their careers were not really aware that at the very front of the cargo compartment is a large inner and outer door that opens to allow twice man-size cargo bundles to be dropped from an overhead conveyor system.
