Fall Fade Away

I have to admit that Fall is not my favorite season. My summer blooms are fading away and it gets dark early. After a few weeks I begin to embrace the change. I trade out my summer bedding for the winter quilts and decorate the exterior of my house with autumn colors and a little bit of Halloween thrown in. I also start making soups. One of my favorite soups is Butternut Squash and Apple. Here is one of my favorite recipes.

There Is An Eco App For That?

I have to admit I am "app" crazy. When I took my phone to the Sprint store, the service representative said, "You have too many apps on this phone." I replied that I use them all except for the pre-loaded junk I don't care about. And I can share most of these with my new tablet/laptop so that they stay synced up.

Here are some of my favorite eco-apps and a few that are new to me:

  • iRecycle - If you are not sure if something can be recycled or where it can be recycled - this is the app for you. It is a free app for both Android and iPhones.
  • Good Guide - If you are a fan of the Environmental Working Group site you will love this app. Just scan the bar code and get information about a specific food or product. It is a free app for both Android and iPhones.iViro  - iPhone app only that can help you manage your energy usage
  •  iViro  - iPhone app only that can help you manage your energy usage
  • PaperKarma - Get help stopping unwanted junk mail. It is a free app for both Android and iPhones.
  • RecycleBank - One word - Rewards. You get rewarded for living a greener lifestyle.
  • Help! I Hate My Kitchen

Hate your kitchen but don't have a ton of money for a remodel. The quickest face lift for a kitchen is to repaint or change the stain color. Now I am not saying this is the easiest task and should only be undertaken if you know what you are doing. Ruining your cabinets is not part of the plan. So if you are not up to doing this yourself I recommend that you hire a professional. If you are in the Roseville, California area, check out Layers of Color. And tell them Eco-Chic Design sent you.

There are a variety of beautiful paints and stains on the market that can give you the exact look you are trying to achieve. If you want that vintage look there is Old Fashioned Milk paintFor the Shabby Chic look you might try Chalk paint. If you are going for the more sophisticated look then check out Modern Masters.

You can also remodel the interiors of your cabinets and make them more functional. if your cabinets are stock models or have been around awhile, they probably have static shelves. Tired pulling the muscles in your back as you are reaching for that cake pan way in the back. Well, reach no more. Modernize your cabinets with sliding shelves and storage units There are a variety of options for any size cabinet at Rockler.

    You Are Not Hosed

It is the end of summer and your garden hose may be at the end of its life. Not so easy to recycle but you can still keep it out of a landfill. There are so many creative ways to reuse it. Check out this reuse site.
