Headline-Making News
For People with Disabilities

Fifty percent of New York City taxicabs will become wheelchair accessible by 2020,

but Bussani Mobility is making it happen now

The historic agreement between the city and disability advocates will ensure that half of the fleet of taxicabs in the city will be wheelchair accessible. The Taxi and Limousine Commission will pass rules that will require cab owners to buy handicapped-accessible cabs after older vehicles are retired or to replace current cabs.

For years, the advocates had argued in and out of court that the paltry number of accessible cabs violated the federal Americans with Disabilities Act. Click here for the full story.

Honoring a Lost Friend
The New York City Spinal Cord Injury Association at Mount Sinai Hospital held its 10th Annual Mardi Gras fundraiser event at Slate Restaurant and Bar on March 4. This year's Humanitarian of the Year Award was posthumously awarded to our great friend and mentor, Peter Zarba. Peter was the true definition of a humanitarian and those who knew him will forever be rewarded with having had that opportunity. The award was graciously accepted by Peter's wife, Molly. With a unanimous decision from the chapter, the award has been forever named in honor of Peter.

And in true Peter fashion, the night was full of fun and surprises - samba dancers, Chinese auctions, and a packed house! The evening was a success, with every dollar raised going into programs and services that directly benefit people with spinal cord injuries. As a member of the Greater NY Chapter's Board for just shy of a year, Dan Bussani has witnessed firsthand what good can come from a group of people focused on assisting others. Without a group like this, life for some would be a very different place.

Mobility Club for March
Bussani Mobility loves our monthly Mobility Club meetings, but this weather has been so cold and brutal on our cars (or vans)! We think for the month of March we should all hibernate and come back when the weather is warmer - in April! So stay under the covers and rest up because the Mobility Club will be back and better than ever in April! Keep watching for updates through our Facebook page and website. We hope you're as excited as we are!
