In the Press
A new project spearheaded by Susan Morris and Chip Newell of Boothbay Cottages was prominently featured in  the April 21 issue of Maine Biz. The development project, 118 Munjoy Hill, is an exciting new opportunity for the Boothbay Harbor couple, who were looking for a place in Portland and found an incredible opportunity in an up and coming neighborhood.

The East Boothbay General Store was mentioned by bostom.com as one of the "Lobster Roll Spots Around New England." The site lauds a "more intricate" take on a lobster roll that includes an artisan roll instead of the more traditional hot dog roll and has high praise for an establishment where you can get both a great lobster roll and wi-fi.

Several of our Chamber members' events and businesses were featured in the "Summer Planner" put together by Down East Magazine, including the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, Owls Head Transportation Museum, Books in Boothbay, and Salt Bay Chamberfest. For a complete list, pick up a May issue of Down East.

Windjammer Days was listed as one of the top 20 events in Maine by Yankee Magazine. For a list of the other top 20 Maine events, pick up a copy of the May/June issue of Yankee.

The Maine Maritime Museum and their "Going Coastal" exhibit is mentioned in an article titled "Humor by the Boatload" in the May issue of Down East Magazine.

Gleason Fine Art is pleased to announce that the gallery has added color woodblock printer Robert Clark to its roster of artists. Well-known around Mount Desert Island as a builder of fine custom homes, Clark has developed his own unique approach to color woodblock print making. Clark's tools include the computer, digital camera, and laser engraver. Using artist's oil paint instead of printer's ink, Clark builds his images by inking and hand burnishing each block multiple times. This yields vibrant prints that have both depth and texture. For further information, call the gallery at 207.633.6849 or e-mail at info@gleasonfinart.com.

Subsequently, his Club 47 concerts brought attention to emerging artists such as Nanci Griffith and Shawn Colvin. At the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library:

Independent Publishing for Maine Writers

Wednesday, May 7, 2014, 7:00 p.m., Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library Meadow Mall Location

Independent writers now have a whole new way of producing and marketing their books. Recent innovations in the rapidly changing technology in printing have created a boom in self-publishing. Good books that don't meet traditional publishers' criteria can now be affordably printed and marketed by self-publishing authors. This workshop will outline some of the options, both traditional and nontraditional, including what is offered locally. Participants will find out how to get the technical assistance they need, and learn about the many types of organizations, printers, and publishers that work with Maine authors. This course, taught by Maine Authors Publishing & Cooperative teaches real-life, hands-on lessons for authors who are considering the independent or self-published route. There is no fee and the class is open to the public. Please register early by calling the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library at 207.633.3112 or by emailing Barb House at barbh@bmpl.lib.me.us.

Literary Luncheon with Paul Molyneaux
Friday, May 9, 2014 at 11:45 a.m., Boothbay Harbor Town Hall

A few years ago, a 7-year-old boy named Asher asked his father if they could hike the entire length of the 2,200-mile Appalachian Trail together. Surprisingly, Dad said yes, and the adventure began. The Dad, now author of "A Child's Walk in the Wilderness: An 8-Year-Old Boy and his Father Take on the Appalachian Trail" is a deeply felt book and the story of a hike which became an opportunity to bond with his son and be what he calls "Barbarians"--in touch with natural processes far from the comforts of home. For Asher, it was a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Paul and Asher Molyneaux would like to share this story at the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library's May Literary Luncheon, beginning at 11:45 a.m. at the Boothbay Harbor Town Hall. Cost is $10 for the lunch. Please register by signing up and prepaying at the library's Meadow Mall location. For more information, call the library at 207.633.3112 or email Barb at barbh@bmpl.lib.me.us.
