Visitor E-news February 2014

|
Greetings,
This winter has provided us with more than our fair share of snow, which has turned the Boothbay Harbor Region into a glittering winter wonderland. In between storms, exciting things have been happening, including the delivery of the first shipment of our 2014 Boothbay Harbor Region Visitor's Guides, which are ready to be sent out to anyone planning a trip to the area this year. You can also view a version of the Guide Book online on our website. Everyone is looking forward to warmer weather and the upcoming events this spring and summer. We recently learned that Bicycle Coalition of Maine has included Boothbay Harbor as one of the stops during BikeMaine 2014, an event that takes some 350 cyclists on an unforgettable almost 350-mile journey throughout Maine. We are excited that our peninsula will be part of their route! In other news, people around here are already gearing up for favorite local events such as Fisherman's Festival (April 25-27), Windjammer Days (which this year features a whole week of events from June 22-28, with the ships coming into port on June 24-25), and many more. We hope that you are weathering the winter well wherever you might be and that your 2014 plans include a visit to the Boothbay Harbor Region - no matter what season you visit, we are always happy to welcome you!
Warm wishes,
Catherine Wygant Fossett
Executive Director

With their nonprofit 501(3)(c) status in hand, missions, goals and curriculum in place, the next step is fundraising and events to assist in the construction of the facility and the purchase of state of the art equipment. Art Collector Maine had a great feature on Barbara Fischer Eldred: For Barbara Fischer Eldred, printmaking is a source of magic, excitement, and discovery. Her work is composed of many layers, which is a mode of expression that can create a depth not quite achievable with paint on canvas. Eldred is passionate about color, symbols, and design. She is inspired by the culture and traditions of the Southwest and often expresses it in more stylized, abstract ways.

Several local businesses were featured in the Project Gallery: Knickerbocker Group was mentioned under "Custom Home Builders", and Hammond Lumber under "Specialty"

From Pinkham's phenomenal collection of over 22,000 articles and stories of the Maine Woods, he has selected the most exciting hunting and fishing tales, as well as stories of animal encounters, lumbering, canoe trips, and even a few ghost stories for this book. Selecting from his vast collection for this book, he now spends his time writing and publishing articles and books about the Maine Woods from his home in Quincy, Massachusetts.
