Visitor E-news January 2014
Greetings,
The new year has gotten off to a cold but encouraging start. Temperatures in the single digits and below zero have caused the harbor to freeze over for the first time in years, and  everyone  is looking forward to warmer weather and some of the upcoming events that 2014 has in store.

The Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce is pleased to welcome some new faces to our Board of Directors. These members of our community will help the Chamber fulfill its mission to promote a positive business climate by focusing on advocacy, access and leadership. Click here to learn more about the new officers and for a complete list of board members.

Our 2014 Region Guide is going to print as you read this, and will be ready to be distributed in a couple of short weeks. It is packed full of festivals, events, photos, information, and so much more. If you are looking for information on our region, this is a great and valuable resource!

Speaking of print, our peninsula and the events that happen here have been prominently featured in a number of publications recently. Page 28 of the Maine Magazine Wedding Issue, which just hit newsstands, has a wonderful photo spread about the Second Annual Claw Down Chef's Lobster Bite Competition. The January edition of Maine Home & Design featured a nice spread on the Boothbay Region Land Trust's "A Taste for Place" event, and, the United States Power Squadron prominently featured a gorgeous photo from the 51st Annual Windjammer Days Antique Boat Parade in their publication The Ensign.

We sincerely hope that your plans for 2014 include a visit to the Boothbay Harbor Region. We hope to see you soon and wish you a very happy and healthy new year!

Warm wishes,

Catherine Wygant Fossett

Literary Luncheon with Former Game Warden and Author John Ford

Friday, February 14, 2014, 11:45 a.m., Boothbay Harbor Town Hall
Retired Maine Game Warden John Ford has seen it all. He's been shot at by desperate prison escapees, been outwitted by wily trappers, and has rescued scores of animals. As a tenacious and successful warden, he was always willing to spend the time needed to nab violators of the state's fish and game laws. At the same time, though, he wasn't a cold, heartless, go-by-the-book enforcer; he usually had a good quip ready when he slipped the handcuffs on a violator, and he wasn't above accepting a lesson learned as sufficient penalty for breaking the law. Ford is also a very gifted storyteller and he writes of his adventures in Suddenly, the Cider Didn't Taste So Good, as well as his newest book The Cider Still Tastes Funny, both collections of true tales, both humorous and serious. Ford, a native Mainer, has spent all of his twenty-year warden career in Waldo County. He has written a local newspaper column and is a regular contributor to the Northwoods Sporting Journal. John Ford is our speaker at the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library's February Literary Luncheon, beginning at 11:45 a.m. at the Boothbay Harbor Town Hall. Cost is $10 for the lunch. Please register by signing up and prepaying at the library's Meadow Mall location. For more information, call the library at 633-3112 or email Barb at barbh@bmpl.lib.me.us.
