Visitor E-news June 2013,  Volume 1
 Greetings,

Schools are getting out for the summer, graduation parties are in full swing, and families are busy planning their summer getaways. Boothbay Harbor was recently named one of the top family vacation destinations by Parents magazine, and we can see why - with boat trips, nature trails, theaters, shops, and so much more, there are lots of reasons why families come back year after year.

In less than two weeks, the Boothbay Harbor Region will welcome 11 windjammers to our waters in celebration of the 51st Annual Windjammer Days festival. This fun family festival is the unofficial kick-off to the summer season and is much anticipated by locals and visitors alike. This year's festival will feature pirates, parades, prizes, fireworks, artists alley and craft show, entertainment, and of course the windjammer fleet.  If you are in the area on June 25-26, we would love to welcome you to the festival!

Looking ahead to the rest of the season, this summer is jam-packed full of events and festivals, concerts and plays, hikes, workshops, fundraisers and more. There is so much going on that from now until Columbus Day, you will be receiving two e-news letters each month to keep you up-to-date on what is going on in our region.

We hope that your summer plans will include a visit to the Boothbay Harbor Region. We look forward to welcoming you!

Warm wishes,

Catherine Wygant Fossett

"A Life In Art" show by Artist Helen St. Claire
May 16-June 19, 2013, Gleason Fine Art
Educated at prestigious Brown University and the Rhode Island School of Design, St. Clair spent the 1970s and early 1980s in Albany, New York. In the mid-1980s, with children grown and husband Jerry retired, the St. Claire decided the time was right to find the place by the sea that they had always wanted. In Boothbay Harbor, they found the perfect house--an antique cape on its own point of land with a stunning view of the harbor and islands. In her studio overlooking the harbor, St. Claire blossomed as an artist, moving with equal skill between figural studies, landscapes, and evocative still lifes. Gleason Fine Art is honored to have represented Helen St. Clair for nearly two decades.

Artist Consuelo Eames Hanks to Display at Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library

Consuelo Eames painting

Born in Boothbay Harbor, Consuelo Eames Hanks spent much of her life far from home. Her intricate drawing and detailed painting style is influenced by the work of her father John Heagan Eames, a member of the National Academy of Design and a senior member of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers in England. Consuelo's interest in painting began in Japan while studying the art of traditional Japanese ink wash painting, called sumi-e, with Takashitasan of Nagasaki. Consuelo is mostly a self-taught artist, deriving inspiration from many sources. Undoubtedly, her favorite subjects come from sailing cruises along the Maine coast in the family's Friendship Sloop. Her drawings and watercolors are in permanent collections in the U.S. and Europe and high-quality limited edition prints of many of her drawings and watercolors are available in galleries and fine gift shops around New England. To see the works of Consuelo Eames Hanks, go to the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library this month during their business hours of Tuesday and Friday from 10-4:30, Wednesday and Thursday from 10-7 and Saturday from 10-1:30.

Friday, June 14, 2013 at 11:45 a.m.Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library

For twenty-five years, millions of Americans watched Jack Perkins on NBC News as a correspondent, commentator, and anchorman. This isolated home they came to call Moosewood was the setting for Jack and Mary Jo's spiritual awakening. Jack Perkins is on a book tour through the Northeast and is planning to speak at the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library's EXTRA Literary Luncheon at 11:45 a.m. on Friday, June 14. Cost of the lunch is $10 and is catered by Red Cup. Please sign up early at the library as space is limited.
