Dear Valued Members,
It's time for Fisherman's Festival which means it's finally spring! Congratulations to everyone who has worked so hard to put on this amazing festival which is celebrating its 40th Anniversary of supporting our fishing community. We would also like to "thank" all volunteers in recognition of National Volunteer Appreciation Week.
Speaking of celebrating, thank you to all our hosts for the start of our Business After Hours and for those coming up. We've had great attendance and lots of fun. Our next BAH is tonight, at The World is Mine Oyster hosted by Efficiency Maine and on May 1, the Governor will be joining us at Studio 53 Fine Art for a "meet & greet". We have opened these up to non-members as well with proceeds going towards a stipend for the Chamber's new Volunteer and Visitor Relations Internship for a college or high school student.
Our Annual Awards Dinner is set for May 22nd starting at 5:00 pm with our presenting sponsor Fisherman's Wharf Inn, a proud member of the Lafayette Group. We will have a "special appearance" by Senator Angus King, an inspirational speech by our newest member Kerem Durdag, CEO of Biovations, awards and more! We have many sponsorship opportunities to join in on this exciting event that recognizes the contributions of so many to our community. Click here for more details.
Our map is getting ready to be sent off to the printer. We have lots of advertising promoting the region and Windjammer Days is just around the corner. This event is more than 50 years old and has become not only an iconic event for the region but also an economic engine that helps kick off the tourism season.
Last year the Maine Department of Tourism did a survey on Windjammer Days and found that more than 3,200 extra vehicles came to the region during the event and this resulted in more than $530,000 of additional revenue to the peninsula. We thank our current sponsors and encourage everyone to get involved by either donating their time and /or money so we can make this another amazing event!
Best wishes,

We're hosting an information and brochure distribution meet & greet so people can come and meet with the non-profits in the area and get their latest maps, etc. It's one-stop shopping for information to kick off the season. All the service-providing non-profits can bring their information that is so important to local businesses (i.e., land trust trail guides, CMBG flyers, and Opera House calendar) and businesses can pick them up at one place on one day. We can also answer questions at that time and it can serve as an info exchange. Please contact Rachel@boothbayharbor.com if you have questions or would like to come as a non-profit.

Scam Alert
There is a scam making the rounds in a wide variety of U.S. arenas from massage therapy to hotels & inns. The company is BRAVURA, INC. from the Yukon, Canada and the scam is well-documented on the internet. A local inn experienced this and wanted the chamber to make others aware of it. They have completed reports to the Federal Trade Commission and the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3). "Ms. Lewis" initially claimed she found the Inn in the Visitor & Resource Guide so others in the "neighborhood" might also be approached.
Efficiency Maine Transmission Alternative Pilot Program For a limited time, Boothbay Harbor area businesses can take advantage of cash incentives on lighting upgrades through Efficiency Maine's Boothbay Harbor Transmission Alternative Pilot Program. The program lowers the cost of lighting upgrades-in some cases no cost at all. Efficiency Maine can make this special offer because reducing peak demand helps avoid the need for an expensive transmission-line replacement. Projects must be completed by June 15th to be eligible for this limited-time offer. INCENTIVES ˇ $44-$90 per Fixture for Upgrading an Existing T12 fixture with New High Performance T8 Lamps and Ballasts. ˇ $50 Screw- and Pin-Based LED Lamps CASE STUDY: A Boothbay Harbor gift shop had twenty 75 W spot lights that operated 9 hours a day from May 15 until November. The gift shop's lighting expense from just running these spot lights last season averaged $60 dollars a month. Replacing all 20 of the 75 W spot light with 14 W LED narrow beam flood lights cost the business less than $100, after receiving $1,000 in incentives through the pilot program. The businesses' lighting costs for the display lighting are now about $11 dollars a month, creating an 81% reduction in the associated lighting operating costs, plus a reduced cooling load as an additional benefit!
