National Organization on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (NOFAS) Hosts Free Webinar: Policies and Practices to Reduce the Risk of Abuse, including Sexual Violence, Against People with an FASD. December 17, 2014. 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM EST. This webinar features Nora J. Baladerian, PhD.  Dr. Baladerian's presentation will cover both personal (family and individual with FASD) and agency-level practices to reduce the risk of abuse and the impact of abuse when it happens.  Click here to register.

Ending Violence Against Women International (EVAWI) is offering a full day of training on the neurobiology of trauma and its implications for the investigation and prosecution of sexual assault on Monday, April 6, 2015, in New Orleans before its 2015 annual conference.  This one-day course is designed for law enforcement personnel, prosecutors, and others involved in the criminal justice and community response to sexual assault.  Training will be provided by a multidisciplinary team of experts from the fields of psychology, law enforcement, prosecution, and health care.  Participants will learn about the neurobiology of trauma and its application to victims of sexual assault.  By exploring how trauma affects victims' emotions and behavior, special attention will be given to examining how the brain processes and recalls traumatic events. Click here for more information on the training, including how to register.

The Neurobiology of Sexual Assault:  Responses to Chat Questions

During the October 1 Neurobiology of Sexual Assault webinar presented by Rebecca Campbell, Ph.D., hosted to a restricted audience by Ending Violence Against Women International (EVAWI), participants submitted a number of questions.  Dr. Campbell helped to co-author responses to these questions along with EVAWI's Research Director Dr. Kim Lonsway and Executive Director Joanne Archambault.  EVAWI offers a recorded version of all of its webinars - including this one - in its webinar archives. It is available free of charge.

Information on Neurobiology of Trauma
Many of us are looking for training and resources on the neurobiology of trauma and the implications for conducting trauma-informed interviews and investigations.  Ending Violence Against Women International (EVAWI) has a number of resources in this area. Click here for a link to information on those resources.

Ending Violence Against Women International (EVAWI) Training Bulletin Medical Mandated Reporting

Many professionals have questions about the laws in their state pertaining to medical mandated reporting for sexual assault. In this training bulletin, EVAWI provides some background information on medical mandated reporting requirements to help us determine whether or not they apply to health care providers in our jurisdiction.  EVAWI also directs us to a number of resources we might find helpful.
