Watch Disney Pixar's "Cars" TONIGHT Under the Stars!
Friday, June 27 | 7 pm | Mount Trashmore Park

Race over to Mount Trashmore Park tonight for a free showing of the 2006 Disney Pixar film, "Cars" (rated G, 116 minutes). Bring your blanket or beach chair and enjoy the evening under the stars. Movie begins at sunset. 
 
Activities take place prior to the movie beginning at 7 pm, including a Public Safety Night courtesy of the Virginia Beach Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney highlighting the dangers of driving under the influence (DUI). WAVY-TV Channel 10 will also be onsite with their W82TXT Safety Campaign taking pledges to avoid texting while driving. Attend a distracted driving course with Virginia Beach State Police's DUI Simulator, and receive a free Child ID kit from the Virginia Beach Sheriff's Office. 
 
Many first responder vehicles and representatives will be at Movie Night including the Police Department Crime Prevention Unit, Fire Department and EMS. Representatives from the Department of Public Health, Mothers Against Drunk Driving and the Department of Veteran Affairs will also be on hand. 
 
A.C. Moore Arts & Crafts (Birchwood Shopping Center location) will provide arts & craft activities for the first 250 children to arrive at their booth.

Concessions will be available for purchase from Coastal Kettle Corn, Pennsylvania Dutch Funnel Cakes, and The Thirsty Frog.

Be sure to catch the next two Movie Night events at Mount Trashmore Park on July 18 featuring "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory" and then on August 22 featuring "Ratatouille."

Celebrate Independence Day at Mount Trashmore Park
Friday, July 4 | 4 - 10 pm | Mount Trashmore Park

Celebrate with your friends and family at our annual July 4th Celebration at Mount Trashmore Park! Fireworks begin at 9:30 pm. Admission is free; limited onsite parking is $5. Food and drinks available for purchase.

Main Stage Performances 
4 - 6 pm | Local music band User Friendly kicks off the Independence Day celebration with their classic and modern rock covers plus heartfelt original songs. 

8:15 - 9:30 pm | Local music sensation The Deloreans is a high energy, versatile '80s cover band that will get everyone on their feet, dancing to retro classics by '80s artists like The Go-Go's, Flock of Seagulls, Duran Duran, The Bangles, Huey Lewis & The News and so much more! 

Children's Activities 
4 - 8 pm | Free children's activities and games, including inflatables, will be provided by Awaken Church. Mason Lodge District 56 will be making child ID cards at no cost. 

Fireworks! 
9:30 pm | Zambelli, the "First Family of Fireworks" will amaze you with their spectacular fireworks show! 

Note: When parking lots at Mount Trashmore Park are full, Edwin Drive between Independence Boulevard and South Boulevard may close. Expect delays. #July4Trashmore

Bow Creek Recreation Center Construction Update 

Bow Creek Aerial Nearly a year into construction and the new Bow Creek Recreation Center is really taking shape! Demolition of the original facility took place last spring and construction began shortly after in July 2013. This modernization project is expected for completion in early 2015 and will open to the public thereafter. Follow along with updates and photos of the construction progress at VBgov.com/BowCreek
 
In addition to the rec center, Bow Creek Neighborhood Park will also open in early 2015. Bow Creek Golf Course remains open with the new pro shop opening this weekend.
Two for Tuesday Is Back in July!

As part of our celebration of National Parks & Recreation Month this July, we're offering a Two for Tuesday special for our recreation center members. Each Tuesday in July, members can bring one guest to any recreation center for free! If you already know how much our recreation centers have to offer, this is the perfect time for you or your child to introduce a friend to our amenities and services.

 

Bring your guest with you to the front desk of the recreation center and they'll be issued a one-day pass. Not yet a member? Learn more!

Please Note Our Upcoming Facility Closures

Bow Creek Recreation Center is closed for a long-term modernization project.

 

All Virginia Beach Recreation Centers, Owl Creek Tennis Center and administrative offices 
will be closed on Friday, July 4. City parks will be open! 

  

Don't forget that your membership is good at all Virginia Beach Recreation Centers! If your usual center is closed for maintenance, take the opportunity to visit another center. Use this locator to help you find one!
