New Dog Park Opens at Bayville Farms Park

Hey, dog owners! This past weekend was the unofficial opening of Virginia Beach's newest dog park, located at Bayville Farms Park in the Northwest portion of the city. This is the City's third off-leash dog park, but the first to provide separate fenced areas for small and large dogs. The other two dog parks are located at Red Wing Park and Woodstock Park

To utilize any of our dog parks, an annual on-site registration fee of $15 is required (for the first dog, $10 for each additional dog), along with proof of license and vaccination. Parvo vaccination is recommended. A dog park pass will be issued for each dog. Registered dogs may visit any dog park.

All of our dog parks are open from 7:30 am to posted park closing time.
Pardon Our Construction

Seeing orange cones or construction fencing lately? Several of our parks and facilities are in the midst of construction projects. Here's the scoop on what's being done:

Closed earlier this month for a Public Works storm water drainage project to reduce area flooding on and across Kilbourne Court. Construction completion is anticipated in mid-July, weather permitting.

Construction began this week for renovations which include the replacement of the park office building (also houses storage and public restrooms), expansion of the west parking lot, a new park entrance sign, reconfigured access and exit to General Booth Blvd, and the addition of a water fountain to the dog park. The park will remain open for public use during the renovations; however, there will be periods of time when certain areas will be closed for construction and public safety. Vehicular access may also be delayed. Completion is expected in late fall, weather permitting.

Construction is progressing on Phase I improvements, which include a new boat ramp, formalized car and trailer parking, stabilization along the shoreline to prevent erosion and re-establish native vegetation, several fishing and overlook platforms, a floating crew dock, a new pedestrian bridge to connect the north and south parcel, and renovations to the existing soft surface trail along with installation of hard surface trails. Completion is expected in late fall, weather permitting.

Future improvements will also include the installation of a park office, restrooms, picnic shelter, park benches and a playground.

Significant improvements will begin next week including construction of an asphalt path, pedestrian bridges, and a small parking lot. The park will remain open for public use during the renovations; however, there will be periods of time when certain areas will be closed for construction and public safety. The adjacent parking lot at Salt Marsh Point Neighborhood Park will be closed during construction to accommodate large equipment. Work is expected for completion in late fall, weather permitting.
