Summer Registration Begins May 3
Get ready for some fun in the sun! Registration for our summer programs begins Saturday, May 3 at 9 am. Get outdoors with our kayak tours, take a fitness class in the park, or sign your child up for one of our outdoor summer camps. (Summer camp registration is ongoing).
Registration will be taken online with EZreg or in-person at any Virginia Beach Recreation Center. The Summer Programs & Activities Catalog will also be available at VBgov.com/parks on May 3.

 Celebrate May as Military Appreciation Month with Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation! We've got some great offers for those who have served, are currently serving, and their families: Free Fishin' Fridays | Free admission to the Little Island Fishing Pier every Friday in May. In addition, receive free parking at Little Island Park on Friday May 23 & 30 (Parking fees are not charged prior to May 23.) Free 2-hour kayak/canoe rentals at Munden Point Park during the entire month of May (subject to equipment availability; first come, first served)

Come out to American Indian Pow Wow on Saturday
Saturday, April 26 | 11 am - 6 pm | Mount Trashmore Park
Come out to Mount Trashmore Park on Saturday, April 26 from 11 am - 6 pm for the 14th Annual American Indian Pow Wow: A Celebration of Life for all People. Experience Native American culture as it is showcased through spirited music, dancing and drumming, and American Indian cuisine.
Learn about various dances and regalia worn while taking the opportunity to participate in intertribal dancing. Browse among the exhibitors with sales of authentic and Indian-inspired arts and crafts, as well as educational displays of American Indian artifacts. American Indian foods and other festival foods will be available for purchase.

Join Us at Mount Trashmore for Earth Day Celebration
Saturday, May 3 | 11 am - 4 pm | Mount Trashmore Park
Expand your commitment to the environment at our Earth Day Celebration on Saturday, May 3 at Mount Trashmore Park (one of the nation's first recycled landfills) from 11 am to 4 pm. You'll enjoy a variety of exhibits, displays and activities that will give you a chance to discover and explore effective and convenient ways to green your lifestyle. #VBEarthDay
AAA Recycling Zone | 10 am - 2 pm
All recycling will take place in Parking Lot 1 at Mount Trashmore Park, located near the YMCA. *Please enter from South Boulevard. Visit the event website for acceptable items.
Performing on the main stage is The Futuros at 11 am and London at 2 pm.

Dumpster Dive Demonstration | 12 - 3 pm
Are we recycling as much as we can? Project Green Teens will sift through trash and debris in a park dumpster to find items that could have been recycled.
NEW! Trashion Show | 1 pm
Cox High School's Fashion Marketing students will showcase their recycled outfits, creatively designed from newspaper, trash bags, magazines, bubble wrap, cds, old clothing and other items.
Recycling Dumpster Painting Make your mark! Paint with The Governor's School for the Arts students and raise awareness about conservation.
Children's Activities Children's crafts will be provided by the Girl Scout Council of Colonial Coast. A bounce house and other inflatables will also be available.

Catch the High-Flying Action at K-9 Karnival
Saturday, May 17 | 10 am - 3 pm | Mount Trashmore Park
We're celebrating by dedicating a day to our furry friends on Saturday, May 17 at Mount Trashmore Park! Bring the whole family (including the dog!) out to the park from 10 am to 3 pm for exciting canine demonstrations, fun competitions, doggy displays and more at our free K-9 Karnival!
Activities for this year's event include:
Canine Demonstrations | 10 am, 11 am and 12 pm
Mid Atlantic Disc Dogs will be on hand at 10 am to demonstrate the highflying sport of K9 Disc before the Skyhoundz competition. The Greater Atlantic Rescue Dogs will give a demonstration of search and rescue techniques at 11 am on the main field. Tidewater Search and Rescue will give an obedience demonstration at 12 pm along with a demonstration with human remains detection dogs.
Neuter Scooter & Shot Clinic by VBSPCA | 10 am - 3 pm
A must for every dog! Offered onsite at the "Neuter Scooter" by the Virginia Beach SPCA. VBSPCA veterinarians will provide rabies, bordetella and distemper vaccinations at a reduced rate of $10 each, and microchips at a cost of $25 per pet. Low-cost canine and feline spay/neuter appointments can also be made by calling (757) 323-7729 in advance.
Agility Course Competition | 10 am - 3 pm | $2
With jumps, hoops, tunnels and more, all ages can compete with their pups. Presented in partnership with Family Dog Club, Inc.
23rd Annual Dog-Gonest Dog Show | 10:30 am - 12 pm
This is 15 seconds of fame for you and your favorite mutt! Does your dog love peanut butter? Have him or her compete in contests like the "GREAT Peanut Butter Lick-Off!" Additional contests include Tail Wagging, Barking, and "Stupid Pet Tricks." Participation is free and prizes will be awarded! Registration will take place at the show arena at 10 am.
2014 Hyperflite® Skyhoundz® Local Championships | 1 - 3 pm
Unleash the champion in your dog during this ever-entertaining contest with amazing displays of canine grace, athleticism and agility. This disc-catching event is open to all owners and dogs, regardless of breed, size or experience. Registration will take place at the information tent from 10 am to noon.
New in 2014! The Hairier Jump Jets Flyball Team | Watch the fur fly as the Hairier Jump Jets Flyball Team holds demonstrations throughout the day! Flyball is a fast moving team sport for dogs, involving a racing course with hurdles, a spring loaded plate, and flying tennis balls.

Make Memories at Summer Camp
The school year will be winding down before you know it, so get ahead of the game and secure your child's spot in one of our boredom-buster summer camps.
We offer camps in our recreation centers and in many elementary and select middle schools across the city. We also offer a variety of specialty summer camps and add-on swimming lessons.

Please Note Our Upcoming Facility Closures
Bow Creek Recreation Center is closed for a long-term modernization project.
The gym at Bayside Recreation Center will be closed through May 4 while the divider walls are sanded and repainted.
The gym at Princess Anne Recreation Center will be closed May 5 - 18 while the divider walls are sanded and repainted.
All Virginia Beach Recreation Centers, Owl Creek Tennis Center and administrative offices will be closed on May 26 for Memorial Day. All city parks will be open.
Don't forget that your membership is good at all Virginia Beach Recreation Centers! If your usual center is closed for maintenance, take the opportunity to visit another center. Use this locator to help you find one!
