Kempsville Recreation Center is scheduled for replacement and will be closing in November of 2014 to begin demolition and make way for new construction. During this time, the Therapeutic Recreation Programs offices will be moved to Great Neck Recreation Center (located behind Cox High School at 2521 Shorehaven Drive). We are anticipating the completion of this construction project to allow us to move back to Kempsville by the fall of 2017.

We will begin our transition to Great Neck in mid- to late-August 2014 as full-time staff move their offices. The Champions After School Program will begin at Great Neck in September. You will see additional changes to program locations as Kempsville closes and Bow Creek Recreation Center re-opens in late December 2014.

We understand that these changes may present challenges, but we are committed to assisting our participants and their families in making this a smooth transition. Be sure to check your email and our website for future updates, new phone numbers, program locations, etc. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at 757-474-8877.

Sweet Night for a Dinner & Dance Wrap Up

Therapeutic Recreation Program's hosted their 3rd Annual Sweet Night for a Dinner & Dance on January 10 at Kempsville Recreation Center. Over 50 participants and their guests enjoyed the semi-formal event. A professional DJ with Boardwalk Entertainment and a professional photographer with Hampton Roads Photography donated their time and services. A spinach and cheese stuffed chicken breast dinner and custom sheet cake dessert was prepared by the Virginia Beach Technical and Career Education Center's Culinary Arts Students. The evening was full of dancing, smiles, and fun times! All participants received a keepsake picture to remember their night. Thank you to everyone who shared in this special evening!
