Don't let the kids spend the winter couch surfing! Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation will help your family stay active with exciting classes and programs for all ages. From fitness and dancing to pottery and martial arts, everyone can learn something new or brush up on old skills.
 
Do you or the kids want to learn to swim? Our indoor pools offer lessons for all ages and abilities! You'll find our popular youth water polo and dive league information in this catalog as well. 

   

Look for the Winter Programs & Activities Catalog to be posted online at 9 am, this Saturday, December 7! Both online and in-person course registration also begin at 9 am on Saturday.

Kids Get Weird When They're Bored

Break Camps Available at Recreation Centers During the Holidays  

 

Boy making weird face Virginia Beach schools will be closed for Winter Break on December 23, 26, 27 & 30. If you have to be at work, have your child spend the day at one of our recreation centers where they're sure to have a blast! Our camps run from 6:30 am to 6 pm and the day is filled with fun activities like sports, games and arts & crafts. 

 

For children in grades K-5, the cost is $25/day for current Out-of-School Time (OST) participants, or $35 for those not currently in our programs.

 

Early childhood camps are available for ages 3-5 at select recreation centers. For current OST participants, the cost is $30/day, or $40 for those not currently in our programs.

Phone Call with Santa - Santa's Switchboard

We've joined with the elves and reindeer to make arrangements for Santa Claus to call your children (age 8 & under) from his North Pole headquarters to find out who's been naughty and nice, but you've got to make a reservation! Pick up a form at the front desk at Princess Anne Recreation Center. Forms must be submitted no later than December 10. Calls will be made on December 12-13, between 7-8:30 pm, so be waiting by the phone! 

 

Pizza with Santa

Age 8 & under with parent | Your kids can have some yummy pizza with Santa at Great Neck. Don't forget to bring your cameras as there will be plenty of photo opportunities with the jolly man. Food served to the children only. Register by Dec. 11.

A Celebration of Kwanzaa

All ages | Celebrate family, community and culture with entertainment, music, poems, dancing and reading the Kwanzaa principles. Free with recreation center membership or day pass.

Parents who wish to get in a workout or join fitness/swimming classes now have the option of supervised child care! Service is included with child's membership or day pass. Space is limited and is available on a first come, first serve basis. You must be participating at the facility and remain in the building while your child is with us. Contact any of our recreation centers for more information.

New Media Arts Programs for Teens

 

Does your son or daughter have an interest in the creative or performing arts? The teen media room at Williams Farm Recreation Center has become a hub for inspiring musicians and artists to express their creativity with their peers. This winter we're introducing two new drop-in programs for middle and high school students:

Girl in Recording Booth Production Workshops: Photography 
Capture and edit photos using state-of-the-art hardware and software. Cameras provided. Free with rec center membership or day pass. 
Wednesdays, 7 - 8:30 pm 

Vocal Workshops: Studio Recording 
Participants explore their voice in our studio and gather inspiration from the best vocal performers in multiple genres. We'll teach drills and exercises to enhance their vocal performance. Free with rec center membership or day pass.

Please Note Our Upcoming Facility Closures

Bow Creek Recreation Center is closed for a long-term modernization project

 

The pool at Bayside Recreation Center will be closed on Sunday & Monday, December 8 & 9 for installation of ADA railing.
 
All Virginia Beach Recreation Centers, Owl Creek Tennis Center, administrative offices, staffed parks & park facilities will close at noon on Tuesday, December 24 and remain closed on Wednesday, December 25 for Christmas. All facilities will also close at 5 pm on Tuesday, December 31 and remain closed on Wednesday, January 1 for New Year's.
 
All Virginia Beach Recreation Centers, Owl Creek Tennis Center, administrative offices, staffed parks & park facilities will be closed on Monday, January 20 for Martin Luther King Day. 

 

Don't forget that your membership is good at all Virginia Beach Recreation Centers! If your usual center is closed for maintenance, take the opportunity to visit another center. Use this locator to help you find one!
