Join Us for an Owl Prowl

Saturday, November 16 | 5-6:30 pm | Pleasure House Point 

 

Owl Discover Virginia Beach's native owls! Join us at Pleasure House Point Natural Area as we explore the trails, listening for and calling these unique creatures of the night. Please bring your flashlight and dress for the weather. Bug spray is recommended. 

 

This program is open to anyone ages 12 or older. A parent or guardian must attend with youth under age 18. There is no cost for the program, but registration is required to reserve your space.

No School? No Worries! Camps Available at Rec Centers  

 

OST Virginia Beach schools will be closed for Winter Break on December 23, 26, 27 & 30. If you have to be at work, have your child spend the day at one of our recreation centers where they're sure to have a blast! Our camps run from 6:30 am to 6 pm and the day is filled with fun activities like sports, games and arts & crafts. 

 

For children in grades K-5, the cost is $25/day for current Out-of-School Time (OST) participants, or $35 for those not currently in our programs.

 

Early childhood camps are available for ages 3-5 at select recreation centers. For current OST participants, the cost is $30/day, or $40 for those not currently in our programs.

Shop for Gifts and Visit Santa at Santa's Stocking Event

 

Santa's Stocking

Get a jump on your holiday shopping next weekend at the 35th Annual Santa's Stocking Old Fashioned Craft Bazaar at Kempsville Recreation Center. Shop among 100 different vendors selling everything from stocking stuffers and holiday decor to painted artwork and handmade jewelry, all at budget-friendly prices! The event runs from 9 am to 5 pm on Saturday and 10 am to 4 pm on Sunday.

 

Bring the kids to meet with Santa from 11 am to 2 pm on Saturday and 1-4 pm on Sunday. Visits are free; professional photo packages are available for purchase.  

 

This annual event offers free admission and parking at Kempsville Recreation Center, located at 800 Monmouth Lane. Food concessions will be available for purchase.

Middle Schoolers Invited to YDAT Lock-In

Friday-Saturday, December 13-14 | Kempsville Recreation Center

 

YDAT Virginia Beach students in 6th through 8th grade are invited to participate in the 13th Annual Youth Doing Awesome Things (YDAT) Lock-In. From 9:30 pm, Friday, December 13 to 7 am Saturday, December 14, youth will participate in the Mayor's Youth Leaders in Action's (MYLA) version of Survivor to address the consequences of negative decisions, underage drinking, bullying and other issues young teens may face today. In addition to the recreational periods, snacks, and prizes, youth will participate in educational sessions led by MYLA that will encourage positive decision-making. 

 

The Lock-In costs only $5 and is coordinated by the Mayor's Youth Leaders in Action in partnership with Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation and the Virginia Beach Youth Opportunities Office .

Park Finder Looking for a new park to explore with the kids? Want to find a tennis court with lights? Try out Park Finder, a tool that allows you to search for a city park by name, location and/or amenities. Search results display both in a list and on a map, and selecting a park allows you to view details including address, amenities, hours and driving directions.

Please Note Our Upcoming Facility Closures

Bow Creek Recreation Center is closed for a long-term modernization project

 

All Virginia Beach Recreation Centers, Owl Creek Tennis Center and administrative offices will be closed on Monday, November 11 for Veteran's Day. They will also be closed on Thursday & Friday, November 28 & 29 for Thanksgiving. Staffed parks will be closed on Thursday, November 28 only.

 

Don't forget that your membership is good at all Virginia Beach Recreation Centers! If your usual center is closed for maintenance, take the opportunity to visit another center. Use this locator to help you find one!
