Totally 80's Party Coming to Mount Trashmore Park!

Friday, June 21 | 7 - 10 pm | Mount Trashmore Park

80sGrab your acid washed jeans, funky leg warmers and muscle shirts for our Totally 80's Party from 7 - 10 pm on Friday, June 21 at Mount Trashmore Park. Join us for this free celebration of the most radical decade yet!

Be there or be square for a live performance by local 80s show band The Deloreans who will cover upbeat retro classics by 80s artists like The Go-Go's, Flock of Seagulls, Duran Duran, The Bangles, Huey Lewis & The News, plus so much more! We'll be hosting an 80s costume contest for best individual costume and best group costume - so tease those bangs up, sport that Miami Vice look, and break out the neon fashion! Also, be sure to check out the display of retro cars straight from the great 80s!

The Totally 80's Party is the second event of Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation's Party in the Park Series. Be sure to tag your photos with #PartyinthePark!

Provide Input on Plan to Preserve Urban Forest in VB

Urban ForestSubmit your input about plans to preserve the urban forest by using the online citizen engagement tool, Virtual Town Hall. Participate in a four-question survey that will ultimately identify citizens' top priorities in how the City of Virginia Beach should move forward with implementing the Urban Forest Management Plan. The topic will be available on Virtual Town Hall for public input until 5 pm on June 7.

Broadly comprised of urban parks, street trees, landscaped boulevards, public gardens, greenways, wetlands and natural areas, urban forests are dynamic ecosystems that play an important role in our environment: they filter air, water and sunlight, provide shelter to animals and recreational areas for people. They moderate local climate, slowing wind and stormwater, and shading homes and businesses to conserve energy. Urban forests are fundamental to Virginia Beach's physical beauty, strong neighborhoods, sustainable development, clean air and water, energy conservation, and economic vitality.

A sustainable Urban Forest Management Plan is crucial in order for the city to move forward proactively in enhancing the existing urban forest, and to meet the needs of an expanding population. Developing that plan will not only benefit the forest, but also improve the quality of life for generations to come.
