Join Us for the Rock Around the Block Party!
Friday, May 17 | 6 - 9 pm | Williams Farm Park, 5269 Learning Circle
Come out and rock Virginia Beach's newest park with your family and friends! We're hosting the Rock Around the Block Party at Williams Farm Park this Friday, May 17 from 6 - 9 pm. Fun family activities, tasty festival foods, and live entertainment are on the agenda for the day! Admission is free.
Rock Around the Block Party is the first event in the Party in the Park summer series. Dance to the beats of the live DJ, courtesy of Crazy Diamond Entertainment, while enjoying carnival games and inflatables for the kids. You won't want to miss performances by Betty F. Williams' Elementary School's Drum Team and Step Team, or the amazing dance tribute to "The King of Pop" Michael Jackson by 10-year-old local sensation known as "MJ."
Be sure to check out a Piloxing® demonstration by our Fitness Team, as well as a variety of food vendors and exhibitors onsite for the event. Tag your photos with #PartyinthePark!

2013/14 School Year Program Registration
Registration Begins Saturday, May 18 | 9 am
Before and After School, Preschool and Kindergarten programs will begin registration for the 2013-14 school year this Saturday, May 18 at 9 am. Register early and have the peace of mind that your child will be in good hands while you're at work. Conveniently located in nearby schools and recreation centers, our programs will keep your child's body and mind active!
To register your child, use either of these options:
Register Online via EZreg | You'll need your client barcode and family pin. These are provided at time of in-person registration and can be received in person with photo ID at any of our six community recreation centers.
Bonus! Bundled Memberships
As an added bonus, Out-of-School Time participants in our school-year program will receive a Virginia Beach Recreation Center membership. This membership grants access to any of our recreation centers between Sept 1, 2013 and Aug 31, 2014.
A Reduced Fee Option for early childhood and school-based programs is available to those who qualify. Learn more.

Reel in the Big One at FREE Family Fishing Clinic!
Saturday, June 8 | 8:30 am - 1 pm | Munden Point Park, 2001 Pefley Lane
Go fish! Spend a morning at Munden Point Park learning to fish with your kids (ages 5-14) at our free Family Fishing Clinic. Don't miss the chance to team up with experienced fishermen for guided instruction on beginning fishing skills. This program is always a hit with parents and kids alike.
There is no cost to participate, but advanced registration is required for the Family Fishing Clinic. Limited to the first 125 participants. A parent or guardian must be present for every 4 children.
Fishing poles, tackle and bait are provided, if needed. Event will be held rain or shine. Hot dog lunch included. Fishing-related games and activities will also be held through the morning.

FREE Water Safety Lessons for Mary Helen Thomas Day
Saturday and Sunday, June 8 & 9 | Times and Locations Vary
The American Red Cross of Coastal Virginia's Water Safety Committee is honoring the memory of Mary Helen Thomas by offering a free learn to swim day for youth age 4-12 on Saturday, June 8 and Sunday, June 9. Several pools in the Hampton Roads area, including many of our recreation centers, will be participating. Swim lesson scholarships and other prizes will be raffled off at each site. To register, please call the location of your choice before June 3:

Mary Helen Thomas was a community leader who promoted water safety and learn-to-swim programs in the Hampton Roads area for more than 50 years. She received many awards throughout her career, and was recognized for her role in breaking down racial barriers within the swimming community in the 1960s. |

Virginia Beach City Public Schools Last Day of School is Friday, June 14
We're gearing up for another great season of Summer Camps and we hope your child will be spending some time with us! We're again offering camps in our recreation centers and in many elementary and select middle schools across the city. We also offer a variety of specialty summer camps and add-on swimming lessons.

Please Note Our Upcoming Facility Closures
Bow Creek Recreation Center is closed for a long-term modernization project.
All Virginia Beach Recreation Centers, Owl Creek Tennis Center and admin offices will be closed on Monday, May 27 for Memorial Day. Parks will be open for your enjoyment!
Don't forget that your membership is good at all Virginia Beach Recreation Centers! If your usual center is closed for maintenance, take the opportunity to visit another center. Use this locator to help you find one!
