Construction Updates and Completed Projects

Beach Garden ParkBeach Garden Park (pictured)

STIHL Inc. teamed with Parks and Recreation and K & D Round's Landscape Services to clean up and renovate Beach Garden Park. This two-day project celebrated the annual Professional Landcare Network's (PLANET) Day of Service, a nationwide Earth Day event. Volunteers gathered to cultivate and redefine flower beds, prune trees and shrubs, create a wetland garden, and install a rock bed to control runoff erosion.

Little Island Park

We're adding 124 new parking spaces to the existing lot, as well as a new entrance and attendant booth. Parking may be limited during construction, but we are working towards completion in time for a busy Memorial Day weekend.

Mount Trashmore Park

The trail widening project continues at Mount Trashmore Park, though weather delays have pushed back the anticipated completion date. If the weather cooperates, we hope to have the trail work finished by early May. Once the trail project finishes, we'll also be adding low- and high-impact fitness stations along the perimeter trail for those looking to enhance their workouts.

Princess Anne Commons Gateway Park

The Princess Anne Commons Gateway Park project is a major renovation of the former Princess Anne Park site. Phase I was completed in February and included a new trail system, restrooms, extensive tree planting and expanded parking. A light garden sculpture was also installed as a gateway feature. The second phase of this project is underway and includes new picnic shelters, playground equipment, and other park amenities such as benches and tables. Project completion for Phase II is anticipated in late May to early June.

Recreation Center Landscaping

Princess Anne and Great Neck Rec Centers are undergoing extensive landscape enhancements to the front entrance areas of the buildings. The goals of these enhancements seek to improve exterior security and safety for patrons, reduce required landscaping maintenance and related costs, and enrich the seasonal color and aesthetics of site plantings.
