Since Williams Farm Rec Center opened last October, kids (and parents) have had a blast splashing in the pool, climbing the aquatic rock wall, slipping down the slide and playing in the pool playground. Just one thing has been off-limits and that's about to change. It's been too cool to enjoy the outdoor sprayground, but beginning in mid-May, we'll have it open for the weekends! After Memorial Day, the sprayground will be open every day.
Sprayground hours:
Monday - Friday | 11:30 am - 8 pm
Saturday | 9 am - 4:30 pm
Sunday | 11 am - 4:30 pm
A recreation center membership or day pass is needed to access the sprayground. Look for a specific opening date in next month's newsletter! |

Changes to FOIA for Youth Parks & Recreation Records
On March 20th, Governor Bob McDonnell signed Bill HB 1524 Virginia Freedom of Information Act (FOIA); records of minors participating in park and recreation program. Effective July 1, this law reverses the default rule of FOIA that certain park and recreation records of minors are subject to the mandatory disclosure provisions of FOIA, unless the parent or an emancipated person who is the subject of the record requests in writing that the record not be disclosed. Under the bill, these records would be exempt from public disclosure unless and until the parent or emancipated person who is the subject of the record waives the protection. The bill was introduced by Delegate Ronald A. Villanueva on behalf of the City of Virginia Beach and the Department of Parks and Recreation to further safeguard minors participating in recreational programs.
