Tips for Hydrating Your Skin

WaterEver finished swimming with dry, itchy skin during the winter months? You're not alone. Natural oils are on our skin for a reason. When those oils are stripped from your skin, your skin becomes irritated. The deeper layers of your skin are then exposed to the chlorine in the pool, leaving your skin feeling drier, itchier and even more irritated.

Here are five tips to help hydrate your skin:

1. Rinse off after a swim to remove skin-drying chlorine from your body.

2. Take quick, warm showers. You might think that a hot shower during the winter months will help moisturize your skin, but it actually has the reverse effect.

3. Drink plenty of fluids, especially water.

4. Boost your omega-3 intake by adding flax seed, salmon and walnuts to your diet.

5. Apply a moisturizer after showering. Look for one with little to no dye or perfume.
