Shop for Gifts at Santa's Stocking Event

Saturday & Sunday, November 17-18 | Kempsville Rec Center  

 

Santa's StockingKnock out some of your holiday shopping early at our annual Santa's Stocking Old Fashioned Christmas Bazaar! Put on those comfy shoes and shop among more than 100 vendors selling budget-friendly holiday gifts, including knitted crafts, soaps and lotions, jewelry, decorative household items, Christmas decorations and more. November 17 and 18 will be the final weekend for the bazaar and the vendors are completely different from the first weekend!   


Admission is free and on-site parking is available. Saturday hours are 9 am - 5 pm and Sunday from 11 am - 4 pm. Festival foods will be available for purchase. 
 
Bring the kids to meet with Santa from 11 am - 2 pm on Saturday and 1 pm - 4 pm on Sunday. Visits are free, professional photo packages (children and pets) are available at varied prices.
 
Kempsville Recreation Center is located at 800 Monmouth Lane (off Kempsville Road) in Virginia Beach.

Saturday, November 17 | 4:30 - 6:30 pm | West Neck Natural Area  

 

Barred Owl

Discover Virginia Beach's native owls! Kids age 12 & up are invited to join us at West Neck Creek Natural Area as we explore the trails, listening for and calling these unique creatures of the night. Please bring your flashlight and dress for the weather. Bug spray is recommended. Parent or guardian must attend with youth. 

 

There is no cost for the program, but registration is required to reserve your space.

Free Access for Military + Family for Veteran's Day

 

Veterans DayAs a thank you to those who have served our country, Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation invites members of the military and their families to enjoy the following:   

 

- Free admission to any Virginia Beach Recreation Center on Monday, November 12

- Free outdoor tennis court usage at Owl Creek Tennis Center on Monday, November 12

- Free boat launches and parking at Lynnhaven Boat Ramp on Sunday & Monday, November 11-12

- Free boat launches and kayak/canoe rentals at Munden Point Park on Sunday & Monday, November 11-12
 

 

To take advantage of these benefits, simply show one of the following at the front desk or office: Military ID (active duty, dependent, or retired), Veterans ID, or DD214.
 
Note: All Virginia Beach Recreation Centers and Owl Creek Tennis Center will be closed on Sunday, November 11.

Middle Schoolers Invited to Lock-In 

Friday, December 7 | Kempsville Recreation Center

Virginia Beach students in 6th through 8th grade are invited to participate in the 12th Annual Youth Doing Awesome Things Lock-In. From 9:30 pm, Friday, December 7 to 7 am Saturday, December 8, youth will participate in the Mayor's Youth Leaders in Action's (MYLA) version of the Olympic games to address the consequences of negative decisions, underage drinking, bullying and other issues young teens may face today. In addition to the recreational periods, snacks, and prizes, youth will participate in educational sessions led by MYLA that will encourage positive decision-making.


The Lock-In costs only $5 and is coordinated by the Mayor's Youth Leaders in Action in partnership with Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation and the Virginia Beach Youth Opportunities Office.

No School? No Worries! Camps Available at Rec Centers 

 

OST CampersVirginia Beach schools will be closed for Winter Break on December 26, 27 & 28. If you have to be at work, have your child spend the day at one of our recreation centers where they're sure to have a blast!


Our camps run from 7 am to 6 pm and the day is filled with fun activities like sports, games and arts & crafts. If your child is currently enrolled in one of our before or after school programs, the cost is $25 for the day. For those not currently enrolled in a program, the cost is $35.

Bow Creek Recreation Center is closed for a long-term modernization project. Expected re-opening is September 2014.  


All Virginia Beach Recreation Centers & Owl Creek Tennis Center will be closed on November 11 for Veteran's Day. Administrative offices will also be closed on November 12. Parks remain open both days.

All Virginia Beach Recreation Centers, Owl Creek Tennis Center, administrative offices, parks & park facilities will be closed on November 22 & 23 for Thanksgiving.

  

Don't forget that your membership is good at all Virginia Beach Recreation Centers! If your usual center is closed for maintenance, take the opportunity to visit another center. Use this locator to help you find one!
