The Wait is Over! Williams Farm Opens this Friday!  

Ribbon Cutting: Friday, October 26 | 4 pm | 5252 Learning Circle


PoolJoin us to celebrate the ribbon cutting and grand opening of the Williams Farm Community Recreation Center, Park and Skate Park!

This recreation center is like none other in Virginia Beach! Check out the indoor pool (pictured) that includes a water playground, 156-foot curving slide, rock climbing wall, current channel and outdoor sprayground. Other features include a large gymnasium, fitness space, cardio and weight room, indoor track, outdoor play court, multimedia area for teens and classrooms for preschool programs.
 
 

The new Williams Farm Skate Park features a tiered bowl, flow park, and urban skate plaza. The skate park is lighted and will remain open until 9 pm daily. The adjacent 30-acre Williams Farm Park offers new picnic shelters, improved trails, and a park office with restrooms and vending machines.

Celebrate with City officials as the ribbon is cut and the recreation center, park and skate park are opened to the public! Be one of the first to see Virginia Beach's newest facilities!

Join us for free admission to the recreation center and fun activities for the whole family all day long! We'll have free fitness classes, boxing & TRX® demos, youth activities & games, skate park demos, Touch a Truck in the park, and more! View the schedule of activities.

 

Free Entry to Williams Farm Recreation Center!

Want to come check out the new center? Entry is free (no membership card needed) through Friday, November 2. A membership card or day pass will be required beginning Saturday, November 3. Remember, one membership card gets you in to any Virginia Beach Recreation Center!

Free Access for Military + Family for Veteran's Day

- Free admission to any Virginia Beach Recreation Center on Monday, November 12 

 

- Free outdoor tennis court usage at Owl Creek Tennis Center on Monday, November 12


- Free boat launches and parking at Lynnhaven Boat Ramp on Sunday & Monday, November 11-12


- Free boat launches and kayak/canoe rentals at Munden Point Park on Sunday & Monday, November 11-12


To take advantage of these benefits, simply show one of the following at the front desk or office: Military ID (active duty, dependent, or retired), Veterans ID, or DD214.

 

Note: All Virginia Beach Recreation Centers and Owl Creek Tennis Center will be closed on Sunday, November 11.

Get Ready to Shop Away at Santa's Stocking!

Saturdays & Sundays, November 3-4 & 17-18 | Kempsville Recreation Center 

 

Santa's StockingPut on those comfy shoes and shop among 100 different vendors each weekend selling everything from stocking stuffers to painted artwork, all at budget-friendly prices! Santa's Stocking Old Fashioned Craft Bazaar at Kempsville Recreation Center runs from 9 am to 5 pm on Saturdays (Nov 3 & 17) and from 10 am to 4 pm on Sundays (Nov 4 & 18). Shop for gifts or pick something up for yourself and don't forget that each weekend is a unique event with different exhibitors!
 

Meet with Santa from 11 am - 2 pm on Saturdays and 1 pm - 4 pm on Sundays. Visits are free; professional photo packages (children and pets) are available at varied prices.
 

Now in its 34th year, this annual event offers free admission and parking at Kempsville Recreation Center, located at 800 Monmouth Lane (off Kempsville Road). Food concessions will be available for purchase both weekends.

Stay Active with Winter Sports Leagues

Registration for Men's Basketball and Coed Volleyball: November 13-26

 

Men's BasketballDon't let the cooler weather slow you down this winter! We offer a variety of winter sports leagues to keep you energized! Registration for men's basketball and coed volleyball takes place November 13-26 at the City-Wide Athletics Office located at 4001 Dam Neck Road. The entry fee for men's basketball is $675/team for A, B, and C leagues, $475 for men's church league and $400 for 40 & Over (slow break) and Sunday leagues. The coed volleyball entry fee is $400/team for A, B, C and Duffer divisions.
 

Practices for both sports start December 3 with games scheduled to start the week of January 7. Basketball teams may consist of up to 15 players, while volleyball teams may have up to 12 players. Participants must be 18 years old or out of high school. Basketball and volleyball leagues both have a 60% residency requirement. Men's church basketball waives this requirement if the church is located in Virginia Beach. 40 & Over basketball has no residency requirement.

Festival Runs January 25-27, 2013 | Registration Begins November 15

 

WWF LogoSave the date for the Virginia Beach Winter Wildlife Festival: January 25-27, 2013! Enjoy the opportunity to observe and identify wildlife in their natural settings. This event includes educational workshops and engaging excursions that are sure to captivate outdoor enthusiasts, both novice and expert.

 

Registration begins on November 15. Space is limited for the excursions and workshops, so register early to secure your spot! There is no cost to attend the festival, but some sessions and excursions do have a fee. Download a registration form beginning November 15 at VBgov.com/winterwildlife.

Please Note Our Upcoming Facility Closures 

 

Bow Creek Recreation Center is closed for a long-term modernization project. Expected re-opening is September 2014. 

 

All Virginia Beach Recreation Centers & Owl Creek Tennis Center will be closed on November 11 for Veteran's Day. Administrative offices will also be closed on November 12. Parks remain open both days.

 

All Virginia Beach Recreation Centers, Owl Creek Tennis Center, administrative offices, parks & Park facilities will be closed on November 22 & 23 for Thanksgiving.
 

Don't forget that your membership is good at all Virginia Beach Recreation Centers! If your usual center is closed for maintenance, take the opportunity to visit another center. Use this locator to help you find one!
