Supplier Highlight - Norwegian Cruises
"Freestyle Cruising"

Norwegian touts itself as Freestyle Cruising, which offers freedom and NCL Logo  flexibility in a cruise vacation. Hallmarks of the program include up to 11 restaurants, open seating and extended hours in the main restaurants, "resort-casual" attire each night, simplified tipping procedures, and a more leisurely disembarkation procedure.

There are no formal nights, no table assignments and no assigned dining room.  Freestyle Cruising is all about choosing what you want to do and when you want to do it.

Started in 1966, today Norwegian has 11 ships providing guests the opportunity to enjoy a relaxed cruise vacation on some of the newest and most contemporary ships at sea.

EpicNorwegian Epic, its most innovative ship, was launched June 2010. The 4,100-passenger ship features world-class entertainment never before seen at sea including Blue Man Group, Cirque Dreams & Dinner, Legends in Concert, The Second City and Howl at the Moon. The ship also boasts unique nightlife options with the first Ice Bar at sea and Spice H20 with non-stop entertainment day and night; an expansive Aqua Park and the first ever rappelling wall at sea; six bowling lanes in two venues; a mixed-use sports deck offering eight different athletic activities; as well as three separate kids' and teen activity areas.

BreakawayIn May of 2013, Norwegian Breakaway joins the fleet.  The 4,000 passenger Norwegian Breakaway will arrive in her year-round homeport of New York City in early May 2013. The ship will begin weekly summer seven-day cruises to Bermuda on Sunday, May 12, 2013.  From October 2013 through April 2014, she will offer voyages from the heart of Manhattan to the Bahamas, Florida and the Southern Caribbean.

Design features of the Breakaway include The Waterfront and 678 Ocean Place which offer a wide range of indoor and outdoor spaces that create a Breakaway Waterfront Boardwalk whole new complex at sea, an Aqua Park with five water slides, a ropes course, mini golf, rock climbing and more.  Norwegian Breakaway's entertainment will include three Broadway shows: Rock of Ages, Burn the Floor, and Cirque Dreams & Dinner Jungle Fantasy.  Celebrity Chef and Food Network star Geoffrey Zakarian will also debut his first restaurant at sea, Ocean Blue, on Norwegian Breakaway.

After the success of the Ice Bar aboard the Norwegian Epic, Norwegian Breakaway Ice Bar Breakaway will offer an Ice Bar on board, which will feature ice sculptures of the Brooklyn Bridge, Statue of Liberty and the Chrysler Building in honour of New York City, its year-round homeport. The bar, seating and glasses will all be made entirely from ice.  The Ice Bar accommodates approximately 25 guests at a time who will be given hooded coats and gloves to keep warm, since the room's temperature will not rise above 17 degrees Fahrenheit.

Advice on using Trip Advisor - Frugal Traveler
By Seth Kugal, Frugal Traveler

" In October, on assignment to find the cheapest way to spend a few days on a Caribbean beach, I dug up a very budget-friendly package to the all-inclusive Viva Wyndham Dominicus Beach resort in the Dominican Republic. Four days, three nights, $561.86 - airfare and airport transfer included. I wondered what was wrong with the place. Surly service? Terrible food? Dirty rooms?

So, I did what any modern traveler would do: I looked it up on TripAdvisor.com. Soon, I was staring down over 1,000 user reviews. Among them were some that substantiated my worst fears: "Very rude staff"; "all-inclusive gruel"; "room filled with mold." Others were far more positive. I went ahead and booked.

Knowing how to navigate the popular site is as necessary a modern travel skill as packing efficiently or decoding European train schedules. TripAdvisor's sites attracted an average of 53 million unique visitors a month in 2012 through November, according to comScore, an online analytics firm, to its user-generated reviews of over two million hotels, restaurants and attractions."
