Interesting Projects -- how did we do that?

We love a challenge!  Our clients have problems and like true techies, we want to solve them.  Here are a few challenges and how we addressed them.  Perhaps this might give you some ideas about challenges that you are facing; give us a call to discuss your system issues.
  • Prevent inventory going negative -- negative inventory is the root of all evil.  How can you sell something before you receive it?  For a few clients, we have created a script (using the Custom Office module) that prevents the shipping clerk (or invoicing clerk) from entering (or accepting) a quantity shipped when it exceeds what you have on hand
  • Want to sell non-inventory items, but still have the ability to use the customer price levels to apply discount rates, etc.  Using the Custom Office module, we added a new field to identify a regular inventory item as a Drop Ship item.  Also with Custom Office, we created a script so that when the user selects this item, it automatically sets the Drop Ship flag to Yes, so there will be no inventory movement.  Problem solved -- can still use special pricing rules without having to adjust negative inventory
  • Weekly Reporting -- we have a few clients who are taking advantage of the power of SQL -- one client is using SQL for their Sage 100 ERP database, but the others are using the Providex version.  We have developed routines to copy data from their MAS tables (SQL or Providex) and capture data on a weekly schedule so that automated reports can be developed and distributed.  We're using SQL Express (free!), Visual Cut ($360), Crystal Reports (included with Sage 100 ERP) and some scripting ($?) to accomplish this.  The result is that management has reports on a timely basis without users having to remember to run the reports, export them to PDF and then email them individually
  • Commissions - we've done it all.  Many customers; many different ways of doing it.  We've developed scripts to calculate commissions on a per line basis based on customers rules, product line rules, sale price rules, territory rules, gross profit rules, inventory type (product vs service), etc.  We've developed automated reports so commission reports get calculated and sent automatically
  • Inventory reporting groups or customer reporting groups -- customers want to create reports subtotal by custom groupings.  We created a UDT (user defined table) using Custom Office to give the client a way to identify the groups, and then we built a custom report to summarize by these custom groups

Supported Versions

What version of Sage 100 ERP are you running?  Review the chart below to ensure that you are running a version that is supported by Sage.  Oddly enough, we have several clients who continue to renew their maintenance with Sage, but don't update to current versions.  Are you one of those?  Remember, it's important to stay current as Sage releases hot fixes and product updates only on current versions and as new computer operating systems get released by Microsoft, Sage ensures that their current releases are compatible.

A very common question that we get from customers (or their IT firms) is what operating systems are supported with specific versions of Sage 100 ERPSee this link from our website to get all the details.  Keep in mind that if your specific version is not mentioned in the document, it is not supported.  We're often asked "well, I have version xxx and my server is xxx and my workstation is xxx, will that work?"  If it's not listed, it's not supported.  If you take the chance and try to make it work, then you are at risk if something goes wrong since Sage can easily say "sorry, the system is not supported".
