Support Tip: Custom Office - Defaults and Tab Stops
|
The Custom Office module is extremely powerful. In previous newsletters, we've highlighted features like adding new fields, hiding old fields and adding functionality through scripting, just to name a few.
This month, we're highlighting another feature of Custom Office that allows you to change tab stops on screens. For example, let's say that you're responsible for adding vendors in the Vendor Maintenance screen. You normally key in 4 keys pieces of info -- vendor name, address, zip code, and tax schedule. All other fields are left as the default. You can use the Custom Office module to stop at only those fields. So, as you tab through each field, it stops at only the fields that you normally change -- allowing you to finish adding a vendor with fewer keystrokes. These tab stops can be enabled by user so that different users have different tab stops. If you need to go to a field that isn't a tab stop, you can simply click on that field.

It's all about speed of data entry. You can do this on pretty much any screen in MAS -- customer maintenance, item maintenance, sales order entry, etc
To make these changes, you'll need access to the Customizer task of the Custom Office module. Once you have accessed the appropriate panel, click on the icon that the arrow is pointing, click on the item under the Tab Sequence column and then click on the Remove Tab button. Be careful when modifying these screens.

Sales/Marketing Tool - Visual Cut
|
For the past four years, we have been working with the Visual Cut software. Since that time, more than 25% of our clients have purchased this software and have been reaping the benefits of staying on top of their Sage 100 data.
Visual Cut software from Millet Software (www.milletsoftware.com) is priced at US$360 and includes the first two years of maintenance and updates.
The software enables automatic scheduling of Crystal Reports and the results of these reports can be emailed, printed, PDF'd, exported, etc. A few of the reports/exports that our clients are currently doing using the Visual Cut software include
- Email EFT or cheque payment confirmations to suppliers
- Export daily sales data to Excel for further analysis
- Email shipment confirmations (including tracking numbers) to customers daily
- Email daily sales summary by salesperson to each salesperson and management
- Email weekly and monthly commission reports to each salesperson and management
- Email daily sales order intake to management
- Export an electronic purchase order to a CSV file and update to the vendor's FTP site
- Export daily sales and purchases to CSV files and upload to head office's FTP site for their global data warehouse
- Email a daily comparison of the Inventory Valuation Report and GL Inventory Balance to ensure the subledger is continually in balance
Some our clients are using this as a sales tool, too. Consider, emailing a sales flyer to your Customer email addresses that are stored in Sage 100 or another ODBC compliant database. Crystal Reports works with any ODBC compliant database. Visual Cut schedules the Crystal Report to Run. You can use these tools with your CRM, your SQL databases, etc. Think outside the box how you can leverage this technology. The possibilities are endless! Is this something that you would like to introduce to your organization? Click here to send us an email so that we can contact you to discuss further.
