Welcome to Spring Nebraska City!
 

     I always enjoy Arbor Day in the spring and Apple Jack weekend in the fall!  They're better than the traditional holidays (Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving day).

 

They're better because:

  • Very laid back non-stressful weekends!
  • NO Dirty Dishes. NO Cooking requirements (there are always plenty of places to eat without cooking)
  • None of the traditional family pressures that are associated with the traditional holidays
  • No gifts required, but plenty of opportunities to pick up a few for those on your list
  • Never any questions "what's there to do??" (more often not enough time to visit all the venues)

     And if lilacs are one of your favorites, you'll love it here. 

 

Take the time to come visit us in Nebraska City at Arbor Lodge State Park and let your stresses be released by the aroma of lilacs in the air.

Did you Know.....

 

 

     A question came up recently about Otoe County's current unemployment rate being very low:  4.6% (not seasonally adjusted) and for those running for political office that's a great fact to focus on.  But there is more to the story....

  • Like other counties in Nebraska, we have high under-employment. Underemployment is when someone is working in a job that they are over qualified for or perhaps they are working a part time job while they are seeking a full time position.        
  • Based on data from the most current U.S. Census Bureau's; Journey to Work, of Otoe County's 7,593 working residents, 2,417 work outside Otoe County.
     As a percentage, this is 31.8% of our employed population.  That means that a large part of our Otoe County residents leaving our county for work could potentially be recruited by new or existing industry.   

 

     This is why it is important for NCAEDC to be ever vigilant, focusing on job creation.  We want that 31.8% back!

It's always a treat to find an Otoe County Hidden Gem.

 

     This month's gem is in Syracuse: Writetime Communications owned by Jenni Leefers.  Jenni has been  in the Syracuse, Nebraska area since 2000.  Writetime Communications is a marketing and design company located in the FirstBank of Nebraska building in Syracuse.    Just on entering the office you'll notice the fresh, new approach that shows a company with a professional, creative and caring attitude.
