They can also win an all expense paid trip to Los Angeles, CA. to compete in the International Science and Engineering Fair, joining over 1,600 competitors from 50 different countries in competing for nearly $4 million in prizes. This is an opportunity to showcase the bright minds that are going to shape our future. From the Director:
A special thanks to those of you who have taken the time to sign the petition on Arbor Lodge. As you may have read, the community of Nebraska City has initiated a bill currently under consideration by the appropriations committee in the Nebraska Legislature. The Bill (LB 1033) provides funding for deferred maintenance to bring the building up to code and would transfer the oversight of Arbor Lodge to the Friends of Arbor Lodge.
An important part of the plan to be able to maintain the park is to develop an endowment of $10,000,000 to fund the park into the future without funding from the State.
You still have time to sign the petition to show your support for Arbor Lodge.
Help us protect this beautiful treasure by going to
"How I Can Help" on:
Please forward this to your friends and family and encourage them to sign as well.

Otoe County Receives Livestock Friendly Certification
From left to right: Commissioners; Rick Freshman, C.R. Hauptman, Carol Crook, Steve Lade, Tim Nelsen, and Lt. Governor Lavon Heidemann On February 25th, Otoe County was recognized as the 24th county, out of 93 counties in the state, to be officially designated as "Livestock Friendly" through the state's certification program. The program is coordinated through the Nebraska Department of Agriculture. "Otoe County has shown it is committed to supporting the county's livestock industry and related economic development," Lt. Governor Heidemann said. "Being part of the Livestock Friendly program is a way to recognize the tremendous impact the livestock industry has on main streets and the local economy." Lt. Governor Heidemann presented the Livestock Friendly certificate to Otoe County Commissioners; Chairman, Carol Crook, C.R. Hauptman, Rick Freshman, Timothy Nelsen and Steve Lade. The county received road signs bearing the logo to display along highways. Department of Agriculture, Assistant Director Bobbie Kriz-Wickham said the official designation makes a positive statement about Otoe County. ***

Here's the 'Dirt'

There is a flurry of activity on South 11th Street in Nebraska City. On the east side of the South 11th Street viaduct the removal of sections of the former Morton House Kitchens can be seen. The areas being removed have roof areas that have collapsed and no longer viable. This will leave the building divided into two primary sections: an east and west section. We are excited that this will open the property up for new potential opportunities.
Further south on South 11th Street, you can witness the construction of the new U Save Pharmacy. The major attraction of this new addition is the offering of drive through for prescription pick up. With the bricks being laid as weather permits, it won't be long before the building is ready! Congratulations Bob and Team.
