Our region's economy was built upon their entrepreneurial spirit, and our economy still depends on the continued success of the enterprises they have worked so hard to create.

Economic Development is unique to each community and Nebraska City is no different.  For Nebraska City, the announcement in the paper that Arbor Lodge would be closing for the fall season after AppleJack (this weekend) required a called for action. Thanks to a team effort and diligent work, Arbor Lodge State Park is going to be open for Living History weekends through October 20 as well as the Enchanted Forrest October 22nd! The community was quick to respond to the announcement that the historic home and grounds of Arbor Day's founder were going to be closed early, thus eliminating one of the most beautiful times of the year to see Arbor Lodge State Park.

This is your chance to see the splendor of Arbor Lodge during "Living History" weekend.   The Enchanted Forrest, a special event  sponsored by Friends of Arbor Lodge would have also been affected.   This great kids' event has been an annual fundraiser for the group and is a phenomenal G rated event for all ages.

Only on this special day, October 22nd you see the animals of Arbor Lodge come alive and share their special perspectives with the children.

The Dirt on Otoe County

  • If you haven't seen the new face of the Lorton Lounge lately, it's worth a trip to Lorton to check it out!
  • The central part of Otoe County is seeing continued investment with the new Midwest Farmers Coop grain storage just west of Burr and North of Syracuse. Thank you Midwest Farmers Coop for your investment in Otoe County.
  • Also investing in Nebraska City and Otoe County is Lumber Jack with their new building located on So. 8th St. in Nebraska City. Thank you Brad Maybee.
  • We are also seeing new housing starting to inch up in the area.  Another sign that things are making a comeback.
  • Probably the most intriguing is the live camera feed o the new St. Mary's Hospital.  Check it out as the red iron goes up.
