We've Moved!

Hello from 123 South Street Nebraska City,

Our new location, fresh with new paint, is the former site of the early News Press established in 1854 (the first Newspaper in Nebraska)!  We are working to get everything situated in our new home.

There are two murals done by Frank Zimmerer, a well known artist, born in Nebraska City in 1882 that grace the walls in the building. The murals were signed in 1950 and 1951 which would make him 68 years old at that time. This early Nebraska City artist who went on to study in Paris and then teach art in California, also has a mural in the Otoe County Court house depicting a scene of the Missouri River.  My office depicts the original 'Steam Wagon' preparing for its journey west ward.  Quite fitting as a pictorial of early Nebraska business ventures (stop by for the rest of the story).

Be sure to share with your friends that we will continue to post the news about available jobs in our new front window. This listing of "hot jobs" has been a hit since we started the board.

Once the carpenters have made their last finishing touches, we'll be ready to toast our new location.  But stop by anytime if you are in the neighborhood.

p.s. If you are a contractor looking for new projects, be sure to stop in and check out the Bid Oppotunities for the new St. Mary's Hospital!

"An Enchanted Arboritum" Tour

"An Enchanted Arboretum" was unveiled Saturday, April 20th with a great turn out.  If you are looking for a fun day out, come to "An Enchanted Arboretum" in Nebraska City.  The student trees are already on display throughout Nebraska City's offices and businesses. The professional trees should be in place at least by Memorial Day. A map is available on the attached link.

It's like a big Easter Egg Hunt but you're finding Enchanted Arboretum trees instead. These colorful and delightfully magical trees are the works of budding student artists and professional artists alike. This is a great multigenerational outing for members of your group, young and not so young. The children will light up as they find another tree of An Enchanted Arboretum.

Nebraska Main Street Webinar

Training Series

"Incubators on Main Street: The Making of a Successful Revitalization Strategy"

Date: May 23, 2013

Time: 11:30am to 1:00pm CT

123 South 8th Street, Suite 7

Nebraska City, NE

Nebraska City Area EDC along with Nebraska City Tourism and Commerce invite you to join us for a Main Street training webinar on May 23rd 11:30 to 1pm.  This is a collaborative venture with The Nebraska Main Street program and Southeast Community College to deliver a unique 90-minute online training.

Attendees will participate as a group and be able to interact with others and the presenter for a more enriched learning experience. The webinar is not available for individuals to login from their desktop.  This format also allows us to hold an optional informal group discussion afterward to talk about how we can apply what was presented in our area.

All attendees must register to attend by calling Rose at 402-873-6654 or email Rose at RoseR@NebraskaCity.com.  A homework assignment will be given to attendees who pre-register and must be completed and emailed to the Nebraska Main Street program prior to the training.  All training materials are included in the registration fee of $8.00. Walk-ins the day of the training are welcome. The webinar is geared toward professionals serving on their local Main Street or community development organization boards and committees and might be working on or considering working on a business incubator in the traditional Main Street commercial district.  This training is not geared toward business owners.

"Incubators on Main Street: The Making of a Successful Revitalization Strategy" Explore whether or not incubators can be a successful historic commercial district revitalization strategy for your community. Learn the important questions to ask before you start investing time, money and reputation. Many attempts at creating Main Street/downtown incubators result in mini-malls that do not graduate entrepreneurs into sustainable businesses within the district. Increase your return on investment by learning the lessons of accomplished incubators as well as those that struggled. Expand your incubator horizon to include incubator-without-walls, community kitchens, arts cooperatives, farmers/craft markets, shared professional space, a fleet of pushcarts, and more.

This is a great opportunity to gain information from those who have done incubators and to brainstorm if it is a  viable opportunity for your community.

This is your invitation to come see our new location as this is the first training scheduled here.

Sincerely,

Stephanie Shrader, Executive Director
