"Remarkable Events that Shaped History" by our own

Tammy Partsch

Author Tammy Partsch of Nebraska City has a distinctive sense of story telling that  adds interest and humor to a topic as dry as history. Each new chapter of the book tells a story of history in Nebraska.   Some stories you may recognize, while other stories  share what  mysteriously happened behind the scenes.  From Chimney Rock to Omaha there are stories to be told and Tammy's wonderful sense of story telling make the history come alive!  Definitely worth the read!

Welcome to Fall!

While many think of October as Halloween, for those of us in Nebraska City, Fall is the most beautiful time of the year. The trees are quickly reaching their peak and this year their colors are especially crisp. If you have nothing scheduled for this coming weekend, it is a great time to enjoy a fall drive to Nebraska City and enjoy all that it has to offer from apples to pumpkins or wine, museums, and shopping.

The tree you see on the right was givenAsh Tree the prestigious tree award  Arbor Day (2012) and in a photo just taken in the last week you can understand why this 75 foot gorgeous specimen of a "yellow ash" deserves recognition.

Like most Falls, the canvas of Nebraska City looks as if it has been hand painted with the colors of mother natures' fall palette.

1st "Community Career Connections"

for Nebraska City Students

Sponsored by NCAEDC

CCC 2012

CCC 2012

Tuesday October 9th, we held our 1st student "Community Career Connections" tours.  Over 25 students from Nebraska City Public Schools and Lourdes School interested in Law Enforcement and Health Careers, spent the day touring and visiting professionals in their area of interest in Nebraska City.  The full day tours were broken into two different career categories, Health and Law Enforcement.  Health tour stops included: A Chiropractor, Dentist, Paramedic/EMT/EMS, and the St. Mary's Hospital Lab, E.R., and Imaging Departments.  Law Enforcement tours included presentations by: Law Enforcement Representatives from Nebraska City Police Department, Otoe County Sheriffs Office, State Patrol, and the County Attorney. A big Thank You to all of the professionals who shared their professions.

As you know, workforce issues face many communities in Nebraska.  As an important aspect of workforce development, we are continually on the look out for job seekers as well as job opportunities.   Community Career Connections was motivated out of seeing students leaving our community, not to return.  Not because there were no jobs available, but more often that the students were not aware of the career opportunities available.  Their perspective of positions available were framed up with only the jobs they knew were available.   The intent of the Community Career Connections is to expose the students with careers that are here in Nebraska City/Otoe County and the level of education needed to fill those positions.

Surveys were given to the students at the end of the day and the best endorsement was a reply to the question: "Did today's tour change your thoughts/perception about careers available in Nebraska City. "Yes, I want to work in town now".

Beautifully Renovated Historic Buildings

a Welcoming Site for Retailers

The investment in downtown Nebraska City continues as two additional downtown buildings are in the midst of upgrading. These adjacent buildings will bring a renewed face to the northeast corner of 7th Street and Central Avenue. The new awning at 622 Central Avenue adds a great architectural dimension in keeping with the era of the building.  Located in the heart of downtown Nebraska City, these two available buildings offer a great opportunity for retail businesses. Be sure to stop by and check out the gorgeous eye brow arches over the second story windows and lions heads on the front of the building.  For more information call us at 402-873-4293.
