Save the Date for Evening of Stars!

Saturday, March 29, from 6 - 10 p.m.

You won't want to miss our annual gala event this March.  The evening will include silent and live auctions, dinner and dessert, cash bar, and the annual Stellar Awards, this year honoring an alumna and members past and present of our science department.  Proceeds from the event will support Fontbonne and the science program.  Tickets are $115 each and you will be able to purchase them through our website.

Please consider lending your time and talents to planning the night.  A kickoff meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 21, at 6:30p.m.  If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Marcy Winokur at [email protected].

Optional Retreats for Juniors and Seniors

Juniors and Seniors who are interested in participating in the GIFT retreat (Thursday, March 13, day-long retreat) or the Discover Retreat (Sunday-Monday, April 6-7, overnight retreat) should make sure to complete the applications available in the Office of Mission and Ministry as soon as possible.  More information can be found in the emails sent by Ms. Denning last week.

Looking Ahead

On January 27, we will begin a Winter Necessities Giving Drive to assist with some of the special cold weather needs of those who are homeless.  As you do your shopping over the next few weeks, we invite you to purchase chapsticks to be donated to the Pine Street Inn and new socks and underwear to be donated to Healthcare for the Homeless.

Semester Exams are HERE!

When it comes to doing your best on your exams remember that taking good care of your body will pay off! Keep these tips in mind this week:

1. Get a good night's sleep. Make sure you get an average of 8 hours of sleep per night.

2. Exercise for at least 30 minutes each day. Exercise will help you relieve stress and anxiety and it gets the blood flowing to your brain to help you think more clearly.

3. Drink plenty of water. Water helps you to hydrate your brain and clears a foggy memory.

Countdown to Sochi: Starts Monday, January 27

Get a chance to participate in the Winter Olympic Games right here at Fontbonne Academy! During this two-week event you'll have the chance to workout like an Olympian, learn how they fuel their bodies and become familiar with the USA team and their specific sports.

Good News

Every year juniors and seniors self-nominate to be candidates for the Suspension Committee, which addresses handbook violations not serious disciplinary issues.  The committee is comprised of teachers and students.  Candidates must be students in good standing who live the four Rs.  Juniors and seniors vote in homeroom for the person they feel would be the best choice to represent their grade level. Congratulations to senior Nathalie Jean and senior alternate Anne Callahan and to junior Jacqueline Lima and junior alternate Chidimma Odimegwu for being chosen by their peers to serve on the committee.

On Friday, January 10, Mrs. Fortier accompanied Tamra Adams '14 and Mengyuan (Grace) Xue '16 to the Massachusetts Eastern District Music Festival at Boston Latin High School. The girls joined 150 other chorus students as well as jazz band, concert band, and orchestra students from 46 schools in 19 towns in the Eastern Massachusetts district for a two-day rehearsal, concluding with a concert on Saturday afternoon.  Tamra and Grace auditioned last November for the opportunity to be a part of this music festival.  Over 400 students auditioned for the chorus and only 150 were chosen.
