From the Office of Mission & Ministry
Lenten Giving Initiative: REACH
The Fontbonne Academy community has committed to a Lenten practice of almsgiving by collecting money to donate to Heifer International. We have chosen to direct this money towards a specific project known as REACH (Rural Entrepreneurs for Agricultural Cooperation in Haiti). Heifer's REACH project is the largest animal project of its kind in Haiti's history and will ultimately help more than 100,000 people. We invite both our student community and our adult learning community to give generously during this Lenten season. Donations will be collected during lunches or can be dropped off during the school day at the Office of Mission and Ministry. More information about Heifer International's REACH project can be found here.

Good News
Students in grades 9-11 met with Mrs. Kupcinskas February 26-28 to begin the course selection process for school year 2013-2014. All students were encouraged to discuss their course options with teachers, department chairpersons, guidance counselors, administrators, and parents to make wise choices about the academic profile which they will eventually be presenting to colleges.
The Ice Hockey Team beat Milton 3-1 on Tuesday, February 26, in the first round of MIAA State Tournament playoffs. The Basketball team beat Sharon 61 - 36 Wednesday night in their first round of play! Congratulations and Go Ducks!!
A team of students took the initiative to research influential African American women in U.S. History. Under the guidance of Mr. Margarit in the Social Studies Department, the students presented the biography of one woman each day during homeroom announcements and prepared posters for the halls. They were supported in their efforts by the displays in the Library, thanks to Mrs. Lathrop and Ms. Charpentier. Thank you to Samantha DeJean '13, Karissa Deslouches '14, Kassandra Edouard '14, Onyinye Ekwem '13, Shamela Leonard '14, Faith Ogbewe '14, Courtney Wells '13, and their leader Alexandra Ellison '13 for sharing their work.
On Wednesday, February 27, the curator of the Milton Historical Society, Steve Kluskens, invited Ms. Pilla's U.S. History Honors I class to help him investigate, via primary source documents, a current-day mystery surrounding the historic Suffolk Reserves House in Milton. He
led the students in discovering facts and engaging in deductive reasoning fueled by questions of his own and the students. Peppered with facts and information of the time period before the Revolution and after it, the student detectives were led through a maze of clues and were left with the lingering mystery. Thank you to Ms. Pilla for arranging for such an engaging guest speaker.
