From the Evening of Stars Planning Committee

Committee Meeting Tuesday, February 26

There will be a Committee Meeting on Tuesday, February 26, at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria. Please come and join us to learn how you can help make Evening of Stars a success.

Time to buy tickets!

Invitations are in the mail to Evening of Stars 2013 to be held on Saturday, March 23 at Lombardo's in Randolph. We have added a DJ and dancing to our program and, once again, The Marvelous McDonalds (Tim and Nancy P'13) will entertain us with their hilarious Live Auction program. You won't want to miss this night!

Now is the time to gather your friends together and organize a table of ten. Simply have one person act as Table Captain, gather the checks together from your group, and send them in with the reply card listing the names of the guests at the table. Be creative! Think of a fun name that describes the group! Now is also the time to think about live and silent auction items that you can donate or solicit; concert and sports tickets are always very popular.

Honors History Class Interactive Session Scheduled

Steve Kluskens, the Curator of the Milton Historical Society, will be conducting an interactive session on Wednesday, February 27, with Ms. Pilla's US History I Honors class to familiarize students with the functions of historical societies and discuss the artifacts and documents available at the Milton Society.  Students will also participate in an exercise using primary source documents to explore a still evolving historical controversy over the famous Suffolk Resolves, resolutions against British treatment of Boston drafted in Milton and taken to the Continental Congress in Philadelphia by Paul Revere.  Were these resolutions written in the current home of the Milton Historical Society, known as the Suffolk Resolves House, or were they penned in another dwelling which was burned down and then replaced by the current house?  Complicating the situation is the fact that the Suffolk Resolves House has two distinct wings dating from two different time periods AND the house itself was moved from its original location in Milton Village to its present spot on Canton Avenue.  Get your detective hats on!

Good News

This week Fontbonne celebrated "Love Your Body Week." Under the direction of Sister Maryann Enright, moderator of our Peer Education program and Mrs. McPhillips who oversees our Wellness Center programs, the Peer Educators and Associates planned a number of activities dedicated to promoting healthy body image on the Fontbonne campus. Each morning began with a "quote of the day and positive music" over the PA during homeroom. Free boot camp early morning sessions, fake fast food cooking classes, positive messages on the bathroom mirrors and lockers, an evening movie viewing and discussion of MissRepresentation, Zumba class and jump rope drills were only a few of the many opportunities provided for students and adults. Thank you to our Peer Educators, Sister Maryann, and Mrs. McPhillips for making such an important week possible.

The Fontbonne Academy community began the season of Lent with prayer and the distribution of ashes on Wednesday. Thank you to our Director of Mission and Ministry, Mrs. Denning, for planning the service and thank you to our student readers, technical assistants, members of Select Chorus, ministers of the ashes, and accompanist, Mr. Anderson. The service also kicked off our Lenten Giving Initiative. This year Fontbonne has committed to the Lenten practice of almsgiving by collecting money to donate to Heifer International. Fontbonne has chosen to direct this money towards a specific project known as REACH-Rural Entrepreneurs for Agricultural Cooperation in Haiti. Heifer International is committed to this project because it will help more people help themselves and speed the end of hunger and poverty.
