Good News
The annual College Planning Night for parents of juniors was held Thursday January 31. Organized by the members of the Guidance Department, the evening is meant to give parents an overview of the steps which their daughters will be taking during the next few months in the college application process. Director of Guidance, Ms. Spignesi, explained the topics which will be covered in junior and senior guidance classes and shared with parents a folder filled with many handouts, the most important being the Fontbonne Academy College Planning Handbook. By the end of the evening, the grateful parents in attendance felt better prepared to support their daughters through the next steps of their academic careers.
For the second year in a row, sophomore Kathleen Ryan conducted a Chapstick Drive for residents and guests of the Pine Street Inn during Catholic Schools Week. This is a special need for the homeless during the very coldest months of winter. The homeroom which collected the most Chapsticks will be given a special treat. Thank you to Kathleen for organizing an opportunity for our whole school community to participate in this important cause.
This year senior Beth-Anne Amerault and school nurse, Ms. Katchpole, asked the Student Council if the annual penny wars collection could be redirected to support a special cause. Pennies for Patients, conducted during Catholic Schools Week, had the four class levels in competition to raise funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research and providing education and services to patients and their families. Thank you to Beth-Anne and Ms. Katchpole for recognizing the need and organizing our efforts.
Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, February 5 and 6, Fontbonne welcomed prospective students for the Class of 2017. A special thank you to seniors Eliza McDonald and Julia Butts and to alumnae Rita Callahan '12 and Allison Foley '09 for sharing their Fontbonne experiences. Current parent panels and many students also helped to make the eighth grade students and their parents feel welcome to Fontbonne.
Thank you to the many student volunteers who assisted at Parent/Teacher Conferences Thursday February 7. The evening was well attended, always an indication of the commitment of our parents to the academic success of their daughters.
