Parents Needed!

Do you have technology skills you are willing to share with our newly formed Student Tech Team?  We are seeking parents who are willing to share their skills with our Team who will be actively assisting students and the Learning Community with various technology issues throughout the school year.  Ideas for training topics range from troubleshooting, computer maintenance, to internet safety, but the sky's the limit!  Please contact Ms. Schein if you are interested at jschein@fontbonneacademy.org.

From the Nurse's Office

Pennies for Patients

On January 7, Fontbonne joined 27,000 schools nationwide in the Pennies For Patients Program. For the next few weeks we will help people who are sick with blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma. All you have to do is send in your pennies or lose change with your daughter and have her put them in her level's collection box. Our school goal is to raise $1,000. The program will take place during the month of January. Please challenge your family and friends to join us in collecting spare change and pennies that may change the lives of kids who have blood cancers. Please feel free to contact Nurse Katchpole if you have any questions.

From the Evening of Stars Planning Committee

Kickoff Meeting

The Evening of Stars 2013 Committee will be hosting an informal informational gathering on Tuesday, January 15, at 7 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Evening of Stars, Fontbonne's foremost fundraising event, will be held on Saturday, March 23, at Lombardo's in Randolph.

At the gathering, committee chairpersons and members will be on hand to answer questions regarding the event, and sign-up sheets will be available for parents who wish to join a committee. The informational gathering will be a great opportunity to socialize with other parents and find out more about this gala event filled with great food, auctions, entertainment and more.  Please contact Evening of Stars Chairperson, Maryclare Himmel P'13, at mhimmel@verizon.net with any questions.

Good News

Congratulations to senior Georgia Bourikas who was named Boston Globe Player of the Week in basketball. As previously reported, Georgia was also named MVP of the Somerville Christmas Invitational Tournament. Senior Jen Gemma and junior Rebecca Olivieri were also named All Stars at the Somerville tournament. Good job!!

On Sunday, January 6, Fontbonne's Jazz Choir and Select Chorus were featured in a Christmas concert with school choirs from St. Ann's in Quincy, Quincy Catholic Academy and St. Agatha's in Milton. A packed audience enjoyed the holiday musical program. The concert, hosted by St. Ann's School, was followed by a reception where the elementary students and their families had an opportunity to meet the Fontbonne choir and learn about our music program and our school. Thank you to our choir members, Mrs. Fortier, and Mr. Anderson for providing a beautiful conclusion to the season.

On Tuesday afternoon, January 8, twelve graduates from the classes of '11 and '12 met with sophomores and juniors to talk about their college experiences. A wide range of colleges was represented. Villanova University, Providence College, Ithaca College and Salve Regina University to name a few. Thank you to our Alumnae Coordinator, Mrs. McKenna, '83 and our Director of Guidance, Mrs. Spignesi for planning such a worthwhile opportunity for our students.

Over fifty "legacy" students, their mothers, aunts and sisters celebrated their connection with Fontbonne at a breakfast on Thursday morning, January 10, in the foyer. Head of School Barnes welcomed the group and thanked the alumnae for believing in their "Alma Mater." The school has undergone many changes over the years but what remains the same is that the students are "women of courage, confidence, wisdom, and grace." Thank you to our Alumnae Coordinator, Mrs. McKenna, class of 1983 and proud mother of junior, Morgan, and freshwoman, Molly, for planning the morning. It was amazing to see how many of our students are the daughters, nieces, and sisters of Fontbonne alumnae...the tradition continues.

On Thursday afternoon, January 10, the National Honor Society sponsored a "Student Coffeehouse" in the foyer. The "Coffeehouse" gave students an opportunity to showcase their various talents. The students sang, played instruments, and read their own poetry. It was wonderful to see so many talented young women share their gifts. The proceeds from the door will go to the "Reach and Read" program. Students were also asked to bring a Newberry Award winning children's book to the event. Thank you to the National Honor Society students and their advisor, Mrs. Herbert, for planning such a fun afternoon.
