Good News

On Tuesday, November 20, Fontbonne celebrated her namesake, Mother St. John Fontbonne, in prayer. Senior Maretta Morovitz told Mother's story. In her address, Maretta connected the life of Mother St. John to the present day students, encouraging students to emulate Mother's courage and passion. Since November was "Senior Month," seniors were the music ministers, readers and gift bearers. Included in the service was the induction of the new members of the National Honor Society. Each inductee received her stole from a Fontbonne Sister of St. Joseph and her NHS pin from Head of School Barnes. National Honor Society members and their parents enjoyed a reception in the foyer after the prayer service. Thank you to our Director of Mission and Ministry, Mrs. Denning and to the moderator of our National Honor Society, Mrs. Herbert for planning such a meaningful event.

It was an exciting month for the seniors in November. In their new senior t- shirts emblazoned with the words, "Keep Calm and Graduate," the seniors enjoyed pizza and ice cream sundaes in the foyer on Monday, November 19. After school the seniors challenged the Fontbonne adults to a basketball shootout in the gym. The adults won with a score of 429 to a senior score of 374. Hockey player, Erin Fererra, was the high scorer for the students and hockey coach, Bob Huxley, was high scorer for the adults. The senior members of Select Chorus opened the event with the National Anthem. Thank you to Mrs. McPhillips for organizing the shootout and thank you to all of the students and adults who participated.

It was the most wonderful time of the year at Fontbonne on Spirit Day, Wednesday, November 21. The auditorium and the students were decked out in their Spirit Day colors to celebrate Fontbonne. Students and adults enjoyed breakfast together and watched their classmates and teachers perform on stage. The Student Council officers did a magnificent job emceeing the event. Our "Calendar Girls" kicked off our Holiday Card Drive, Fontbonne's student fundraiser.

Coached by Mr. Carta, the juniors lost a close "Powder Puff" football game to the seniors on Spirit Day afternoon. The seniors, coached by Mr. McGoldrick, rallied from a deficit to beat the Class of 2014. Thank you to the coaches, players, adults, and student cheerleaders and to Mrs. Devine who refereed the game. The game was the perfect way to end a great Spirit Day.

Are You Smarter Than a Senior? The seniors challenged the adults to a trivia contest this week. The questions were randomly selected for the daily teams. The results were tallied and much to the adults' chagrin the students won. Congratulations to the Class of 2013.
