February 2015

I was sorry to have to miss our awards banquet this year, especially after hearing some winners were also roasted!  What fun!  Please see below for some highlights of a great event hosted by Sports Car Club of Rockford. Thanks for all your hard work SCCR!

Recently, I've realized it takes a certain kind of person to build a race/track/project car... with all the work, rework, upgrades, and fine tuning.  It's a labor of love that is never done, never finished.  The search for mechanical perfection driving us through late nights and long weekends.  I may be waxing a bit poetic, but last week I had to face tearing apart an entire engine bay, again, to repair a motor that was just rebuilt.  I dreaded it... but once I got started, the momentum of the work kept me going and I actually finished what I wanted to, by the time I needed to.  The hard part is up next, but I'm considering this a win.  With my growing competence & confidence, I'm actually looking forward to tearing apart my track car again.  Or maybe I'm just a glutton for punishment!

We have a number of activities on the schedule for Spring:

  • Race and Performance Expo:  February 14-15 in Du Page Expo Center (Booths 120-124) at the Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles, IL.  Eric Barnes will be spearheading the event and will need volunteers to man our booth Saturday 9am-5pm & Sunday 9am-4pm.  Please contact him if you are able to help.
  • NSSCC FREE Indoor Racing School:  March 21 at Blackhawk Farms.  More info at nsscc.org. Register by March 18 on myautoevents.com.
  • Annual Tech Day:  March 28 at Advanced Autosports.  Time and details to follow.
  • Tire Wall Day:    April 12 at Blackhawk Farms
            8am    Gate Opens
            9am    Tire Wall Day starts
            11:30am    Lunch
            12pm    Touring Starts (weather permitting)
            1:30pm    Touring Ends
  • First Drivers School & Race: April 18-19 at Blackhawk Farms

Also, Please note that our Midwestern Council 2015 Event Schedule has been updated on our website mcscc.org and at the bottom of this newsletter.  Anyone with/wanting input on the proposed Enduro series should contact Rob Woelfle, who is working on the preliminary rules.
