Greetings!
Guess who finally got back out on track... yup, this girl! I had a great day at the Driver's School Saturday. The new-ish manual transmission performed well, I didn't embarrass myself with the clutch, and it was soooo nice to get instant response from the car. After a quick re-bleed and double check under the hood, I should be good-to-go for Road America next weekend.
By the way fellow HSAXers, there's plenty of space left in the HPDE group Sunday. There's also a parking lot AX on Saturday for those without [my] phobia of orange cones. For anyone not racing, Gail Woelfle will be running her Race Staff Clinic on Saturday. Road America is a premier track to learn the different staffing specialties, and then you'll be able to help at future events in a variety of ways. Email Gail at buddygail62@gmail.com for more information. If you already have the knowledge, please sign up to help staff the event; it's a huge track & we need all the help we can get. Our racers will also be treating staff to rides (at speed) around the track following Saturday's race. Trust me... that's an experience!
Reminder note regarding GingerMan:
The race is being held on Saturday, with the HSAX on Sunday. I've scheduled vacation days Friday & Monday... it's going to be a GREAT weekend!
Until we race again, Michele Salamun Klaxon Editor |

VSCDA Reflections
By Sheryl Rakowski
|
Sadly, there was a tragedy at this year's VSCDA event that I failed to acknowledge in the last edition of the Klaxon. My heart went out to Robert Hanneman's family, friends, all of the staff that worked quickly & diligently caring for him & the situation, and everyone at the track who had to find a way to carry on with the rest of the event. Sheryl wrote a poignant recap of the weekend which I meant to include, but it was lost from my files. My apologies for the delay. A reprint of the VSCDA release regarding this loss can be found on our Facebook page. ~Michele
Greetings Everyone,
Most if not all the folks who will read this know that motorsports is filled with beauty, fun and excitement. But as with many things of value, it also comes with challenges and risk. And now, as I stare at this mostly blank computer screen, it's difficult to know how to strike the right tone with my VSCDA weekend recap and thank-yous since we experienced more of the latter than we hope we'll ever have to.
In most respects this was a typical Father's Day event for Midwestern Council with plenty to delight us: awe-inspiring cars, large fields, good food, and most importantly - good friends. Although trivial in retrospect, Saturday's biggest challenge was the weather. Morning showers dampened the enthusiasm of the drivers leaving those of us on the corners with little to oggle and "Ooooh" about. But the clouds eventually dispersed and the bounty was restored. Oh, and the dinner Saturday evening? All I can say is, man, VSCDA puts on a darned good spread!
Sunday... started out picture perfect. That's the part of the day I keep grasping for. A sometimes endless display of racing machinery at its finest, under a bright sunny sky, with just the right amount of little popcorn clouds. It was the kind of event on the kind of day that made my fingers ache a little to be holding a camera. Only before we made it to lunch, the day got a lot darker, though it had nothing to do with a change in the weather. And of course, as we all know, road racing is not a fair-weather sport. So eventually, the cars once again started coming. The drivers, once again, started racing. And we all started taking our smiles where we could find them, and being more generous with our hugs than we'd probably been in a very long while.
So, to our flagging and communications team for this VSCDA weekend, I'm giving out cyber hugs full of gratitude. To all our friends in Midwestern Council Race Staff, for you it's supportive armfulls of admiration and appreciation. And to our friends in VSCDA, I know we all wish to share the condolences of the heavy-hearted... but also the highlights reel of all the best memories the weekend had to offer.
We'll see you all again next time around.
We're racers after all... it's kinda what we do.

We still have a few vacant positions in need of dedicated members. It is important to our organization that all open positions be filled so that our events can be run as smoothly as possible. If you can help, please email racestaff@mcscc.org to volunteer. Thanks!
HSAX Director (John Churchill will continue as Acting Director until a new one is found.)
HSAX Starters (We would like to have a team of starters in place for HSAX events. Starters who are also HSAX participants are still able to race and will receive priority access to the track for scheduled Practice Sessions and Timed Runs.)
