Welcome to the 36th issue of the BetterHealthGuy.com Newsletter!

Another year has almost past, and it is hard to believe that I have been sending these newsletters since 2005.  Each year, I see more and more happening in the world of chronic Lyme disease and my optimism for even better treatments in the future is high.

At this year's ILADS conference in Boston, the nearly 700 registered attendees packed the hallways.  At my very first ILADS conference in 2006, it was a much smaller event.  People are getting the message that chronic Lyme disease is real and brave practitioners and researchers are working diligently to find better answers.

While I currently plan to continue doing occasional newsletters, I share much more regular information via my Facebook page.  If you are interested in the very latest that I have learned on Lyme disease and recovering from chronic illness, please "Like" BetterHealthGuy.com on Facebook.

I've had the opportunity to attend eleven conferences in 2012 and have been fortunate to have learned from some of the best practitioners.  You'll find some of my notes from those events linked elsewhere in this newsletter.

Here's to Better Health!

My Current Status

GcMAF

I continue to do quite well though did have a difficult year with inflammation resulting from GcMAF therapy.  I had planned to stop GcMAF injections around July after nearly a year of using them, but it was suggested at that time that I continue for several more months.  I'm hoping to be done with them in early 2013 if not sooner.

GcMAF was a difficult and wild ride. While it has been very helpful for some people, it seems to promote inflammation in many with chronic Lyme disease.  In over 15 years of treating, it was by far the most difficult treatment I have ever done.  Hopefully, the longer-term benefits will be worth it.

I did recently have a session with a consultant that looks at your blood under a microscope, and he commented that my immune system looked like that of a teenager.  I do feel like it has helped my immune system, but it has not been easy.  If pursuing GcMAF therapy yourself, it is important that you are working closely with a practitioner that can support you in the event that inflammation becomes a significant issue.  It seems that people tolerate GcMAF better with much lower dosing that what is used for other conditions.

The rest of what I've been up to treatment-wise can be found here including my current Supplement List.

Everything Klinghardt...

Dr. Klinghardt and colleagues

As most of you already likely know, Dr. Dietrich Klinghardt MD, PhD has been my primary mentor on this Lyme journey since shortly after my diagnosis in 2005.  I had the opportunity this year to attend several events taught by Dr. Klinghardt and his team of healers.  I summarized one of his recent events here.

Dr. Klinghardt recently moved offices and has an exciting new healing facility called Sophia Health Institute.  More information on Sophia Health Institute can be found here.  His team is amazing!  Their latest newsletter can be found here.

The Klinghardt Academy has several exciting events planned for 2013.  You can learn more about these upcoming events at the Klinghardt Academy website.  The latest newsletter from the Academy can be found here.

Dr. Klinghardt was recently interviewed on the effects of EMFs / EMR on our health.  This not-to-be-missed video can be seen here.

Treatment for Mold Illness and Its Application for Lyme Disease

I recently interviewed Dr. Raj Patel MD who utilizes the Shoemaker Protocol in his practice with great success in patients with Lyme disease and mold illness.

In Memoriam

Throughout this journey, I have been touched by so many wonderful people that I have had the pleasure to meet.

Sadly, two of these people recently passed away.  I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to cross paths with them during their time on earth.

Dr. Kim Saxe was an amazing doctor and an amazing soul.  She recently passed away and will be deeply missed.  She was such a special and unique person.

Rich Van Konynenburg was a superb researcher that put together so many of the pieces of the methylation puzzle for those of us with CFS, Lyme, and related conditions.  Rich passed away in October.  He was an incredibly bright and caring person and will be missed.

Recent Lyme Books

Beginners Guide

Two very useful books were recently published on the topic of Lyme disease.

The first is "The Beginner's Guide to Lyme Disease" written by Dr. Nicola McFadzean ND.  This is probably the most comprehensive and most current collection of information on Lyme disease available today.  I found it a very good read with a tremendous amount of useful information.

Beyond Lyme Disease

The second is "Beyond Lyme Disease" by Connie Strasheim.  This book helps us to think beyond Lyme disease and to consider

numerous other factors that could be an explanation for ongoing illness.

Both books are valuable additions to my collection of Lyme-related books and I think you will find them highly useful as well.  I certainly did.

Physician's Round Table

Sue Vogan

Sue Vogan is the host of the
popular radio show In Short Order which has many excellent doctors and healers interviewed each week.  I highly recommend the show.

Sue hosts the annual Physician's Round Table conference in Florida each January.  Last year was the first one I had the chance to attend, and it was absolutely superb.  Try and make it if you can this year.

My notes from this year's PRT event can be found here.  Information on the January 2013 event in Tampa, Florida can be found here.

The list of speakers is superb and includes Ann Corson MD, Harvey Bigelsen MD, Omar Amin PhD, Rick Sponaugle MD, Lee Cowden MD, Stephen Fry MD, Judy Mikovits, Michael Payne, and many other greats!

Come join us for all the fun!

Leading Experts Gather to Decode The Mystery of Chronic Illness

PHA

Researched Nutritionals hosted a superb conference in September called "Decoding the Mystery of Chronic Illness".

I subsequently wrote an article about the event which is just about to be published in the Public Health Alert.

The article summarizes lectures from Dr. Burrascano, Dr. Stephen Fry, Dr. Carol Ann Ryser, Dr. Norton Fishman, David Berg, and many others.

To see the full article, you can find it here in early December.

Note: The link won't work until the article is published in a couple of weeks.

Astaxanthin

According to the site Astaxanthin Benefits, astaxanthin may help protect the liver, be antibacterial, reduce inflammation, improve mitochondrial health, protect cell membranes, increase cognitive function, protect the skin, and have many other benefits.

Astaxanthin is a fat soluble antioxidant that gives salmon and flamingos their pink color.  According to Dr. Mercola's site, It is reported to be 65-6000 times more powerful than Vitamin C and up to 800 times more powerful than CoQ10.

A great source of information on Astaxanthin from Dr. Mercola can be found here.
