Vision statement
|
Jesus in Love supports lesbian, gay, bi trans and queer (LGBTQ) spirituality, with an emphasis on art and literature. It promotes artistic and religious freedom and teaches love for all people, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. It is based on these beliefs: God loves all people, including sexual minorities. The creative process is sacred. The queer visions, especially the gay Jesus and LGBT saints, will free people to experience the divine in new ways and lead to a more just world.
Jesus in Love was founded by lesbian Christian author Kittredge Cherry as her personal gift to the world.

Happy Easter!
from Jesus in Love and Kittredge Cherry
Christ is risen! Rejoice!
I found Jesus painted on the walls of the Los Angeles neighborhood near my home. Folk-art religious murals are a wonderful part of the Latino street culture here.
These colorful murals express the Easter spirit of Jesus vibrantly alive among the common people. When I visited the Jesus murals, I wore my rainbow-flag T-shirt that proclaims, "God loves me just as I am." More photos and info (Credit: Photo by Audrey Lockwood)

Friends to the end: Perpetua and Felicity
Saints Perpetua and Felicity were brave North African woman friends who died for their faith in the 3rd century. They are often included in lists of LGBT saints because they show the power of love between two women. Perpetua's journal is the first known written document by a woman in Christian history. John Boswell: LGBT Christian historian
John Boswell (1947-1994) remains an unofficial saint to the many LGBTQ Christians who find life-giving spiritual value in his historical research.
He affirmed the value of queer people in Christian history. His classics are "Christianity, Social Tolerance, and Homosexuality" and "Same-Sex Unions in Premodern Europe." More info |
Biblical queens inspire LGBT writers
Biblical Queen Esther is a role model for LGBTQ people. Queer characters fill the Book of Esther. A possible love story between her and Persian Queen Vashi has fired the imagination of a lesbian playwright. More info

Jesus heals a centurion's boyfriend
Jesus praised a gay soldier as a role model of faith and healed his male lover in the gospels, according to many Bible experts. Both Matthew 8:5-13 and Luke 7:1-10 tell how a centurion asked Jesus to heal the young man referred to in Greek as his "pais." The word commonly meant the younger man in a same-sex relationship. Adrienne Rich: lesbian poet of spirit

Adrienne Rich was a lesbian feminist and one of the most influential poets of the 20th century.
A tribute at the Jesus in Love Blog includes her unpublished remarks on spirituality as well as beloved quotations such as: "Art means nothing if it simply decorates the dinner table of power which holds it hostage." More info

Correction: Jendi Reiter's name was misspelled in the report on her review of the Passion book.
I leave you with the words of Jesus after he rose on the first Easter. The doors were shut, but Jesus came and stood among his friends and said, "'Peace be with you."
