Vision statement

Jesus in Love supports lesbian, gay, bi trans and queer  (LGBTQ) spirituality, with an emphasis on art and literature. It promotes artistic and religious freedom and teaches love for all people, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. It is based on these beliefs: God loves all people, including sexual minorities. The creative process is sacred. The queer visions, especially the gay Jesus and LGBT saints, will free people to experience the divine in new ways and lead to a more just world.

Jesus in Love was founded by lesbian Christian author Kittredge Cherry as her personal gift to the world.

Dear ,
Merry Christmas!

Color Nativity by Sebastian Bergne

I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ.

-- Luke 2:10-11

Chist is born in a way that liberates people from limitations of gender, race and sexual orientation in the minimalist "Color Nativity" by British artist Sebastian Bergne.

The plain wooden blocks evoke the essence of the holy scene simply through color, shape and placement.

"Color Nativity" empowers viewers to discern for themselves whether LGBTQ people were present at the first Christmas.

Lazarus: Jesus' beloved disciple?

Raising of Lazarus
Some Bible experts believe that Lazarus of Bethany was the "beloved disciple" of Jesus -- and maybe even his gay lover. They also suggest that Lazarus was the unnamed naked young man who ran away when Jesus was arrested in Mark's gospel.

Lazarus coming out of the tomb when Jesus raised him from the dead can symbolize coming out of the closet as a LGBT person. More info
Ruth and Naomi: Love between women

Ruth and Naomi
Love between women is honored in the lives of Biblical figures Ruth and Naomi. Ruth's famous vows to Naomi are often used in weddings -- heterosexual as well as same-sex marriages. Few realize that these beautiful promises were originally spoken by one woman to another: "Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God..." More info
Greet the New Year with Bridge of Light
Rainbow Candles

Welcome the new year with Bridge of Light, a winter holiday honoring LGBT culture. People light 6 candles, one for every color of the rainbow flag, on New Year's Eve. Each candle stands for a spiritual principle in the lives and history of queer people.  The colors also match models of the queer Christ. More info

Epiphany: Three kings or three queens?

Reimagining the three kings as queer or female gives fresh meaning to Epiphany. The holiday on Jan. 6 celebrates the visit of the Magi to the infant Jesus.

New visions include a controversial painting of female Magi and Biblical scholarship suggesing that the Magi were eunuchs -- people who today would be called gay or transgender. More info
