Vision statement

Jesus in Love supports lesbian, gay, bi trans and queer  (LGBTQ) spirituality, with an emphasis on art and literature. It promotes artistic and religious freedom and teaches love for all people, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. It is based on these beliefs: God loves all people, including sexual minorities. The creative process is sacred. The queer visions, especially the gay Jesus and LGBT saints, will free people to experience the divine in new ways and lead to a more just world.

Jesus in Love was founded by lesbian Christian author Kittredge Cherry as her personal gift to the world.

I give thanks for God's spirit manifested in LGBT saints, brave artists who do queer Christian art, and the people who read their stories in the newsletter this month.
Same-sex kisses in church: Exhibit censored and vandalized in Italy

Si Quiero by Gonzalo Orquin
A show with photos of same-sex kisses in churches faced censorship and vandalism recently in Italy.

Artist Gonzalo Orquin photographed gay and lesbian couples kissing in front of altars at some of the most important ancient basilicas in Rome.

The photo series is titled "Si, Quiero," which means, "Yes, I want to." But the Vatican said no and stopped the exhibit. More info

Vida Scudder: Lesbian saint and teacher

Vida Dutton Scudder

Vida Dutton Scudder (1861-1954) was a social reformer, Wellesley professor, prominent lesbian author -- and an official saint in the Episcopal Church.

For 35 years until her death, Scudder lived with author Florence Converse in a lesbian relationship. Scudder was active in the Social Gospel movement. Her spirituality went hand in hand with her social conscience and love of learning. More info

The Bible and Gays: Is it a sin to be gay? Did Jesus condemn homosexuality?

Bible with an Awareness by Andrew Craig Williams
Jesus in Love shares one of the best articles on the Bible and homosexuality. Florida pastor Durrell Watkins goes far beyond debunking anti-gay verses to present Christ's positive message about LGBTQ people. Highlights:

"Is it a sin to be gay? 'Sin' means to miss the mark... To discover that one is something and to be honest about it can never be missing the mark..." Read more

"Did Jesus condemn homosexuality?  Jesus condemned precious little. One of the few things that he did condemn was the tendency of religious people to participate in condemnation! ..."

Malachy: Same-sex soulmate to Bernard

Malachy of Armagh by Rowan Lewgalon
Malachy of Armagh is an 11th-century Irish saint who died in the arms of his more famous soulmate, St. Bernard of Clairvaux.

Bernard showered Malachy with kisses during his lifetime and they are buried together, wearing each other's clothes. Malachy is also the attributed author for the "Prophecy of the Popes."
