Vision statement
|
Jesus in Love supports lesbian, gay, bi trans and queer (LGBTQ) spirituality, with an emphasis on art and literature. It promotes artistic and religious freedom and teaches love for all people, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. It is based on these beliefs: God loves all people, including sexual minorities. The creative process is sacred. The queer visions, especially the gay Jesus and LGBT saints, will free people to experience the divine in new ways and lead to a more just world.
Jesus in Love was founded by lesbian Christian author Kittredge Cherry as her personal gift to the world.

Roscoe discusses Jesus and gay love
Gay anthropologist Will Roscoe gives new insights into the connections between Jesus and same-sex love in an interview today at the Jesus in Love Blog.
He discusses recent archeological discoveries related to the queer Christ, such as the Gospel of Judas and a bowl with an inscription about "Christ the magician." He also reveals his own beliefs about Jesus. More info
His groundbreaking book "Jesus and the Shamanic Tradition of Same-Sex Love" is back in print with a updated edition from Lethe Press.

Hidden Perspectives: Cherry interviewed
Hidden Perspectives, a project for "bringing the Bible out of the closet," posted a new interview with author Kittredge Cherry on interactions between LGBT people and religion.
"My Christian faith gave me the strength to come out as a lesbian almost 30 years ago," Cherry says in the wide-ranging interview. More info

Rosa Bonheur: Cross-dressing painter honored "androgyne Christ"
Rosa Bonheur, the most famous female painter of the 19th century, was a queer cross-dresser who honored what she called the "androgyne Christ." She had two consecutive long-term relationships with women.
Her achievements grew out of an unusual religious upbringing in the proto-feminist Saint-Simonian sect, and the queer Christian ideals that she expressed in adulthood. Bonheur's gender-bending lifestyle has been covered extensively by scholars, but her spirituality has received much less attention until now. More info

Adam and Steve enjoy marriage equality

Congratulations to the countries and states that approved marriage equality, including New Zealand, Minnesota, Rhode Island and Delaware.
In honor of these events, here is "Adam and Steve in 14 Countries" by Tony De Carlo. The original same-sex couple stands together on an island made of flags from nations where same-sex marriage is legal.
De Carlo began his Adam and Steve series in response to people who oppose LGBT rights because they say "God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve." More info

Joan of Arc: Cross-dressing warrior-saint
Joan of Arc was a cross-dressing teenage warrior who led the medieval French army to victory. This queer icon and girl-power hero was killed for wearing men's clothing by the church that later made her a saint.
Joan's belief that God was the source of her gender-bending queerness makes her an especially inspiring role model for LGBT people of faith. More info
