Vision statement
|
Jesus in Love supports lesbian, gay, bi trans and queer (LGBTQ) spirituality, with an emphasis on art and literature. It promotes artistic and religious freedom and teaches love for all people, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. It is based on these beliefs: God loves all people, including sexual minorities. The creative process is sacred. The queer visions, especially the gay Jesus and LGBT saints, will free people to experience the divine in new ways and lead to a more just world.
Jesus in Love was founded by lesbian Christian author Kittredge Cherry as her personal gift to the world.

All Saints Day is celebrated today with the addition of 13 new profiles to the LGBTQ Saints page at JesusInLove.org. The most popular new saint is Jemima Wilkinson, a queer American Quaker preacher reborn in 1776 as "Publick Universal Friend."
Now the page has grown to 55 profiles: 31 traditional Christian and 24 alternative figures, including 20th-century writers, theologians and activists. More info

Newman shared a romantic friendship
Blessed John Henry Newman, a 19th-century British scholar-cardinal, had a "romantic friendship" with Ambrose St. John. The two priests lived together for 32 years and share the same grave.
After converting together to Catholicism, they studied together in Rome, where they were ordained priests at the same time."From the first he loved me with an intensity of love, which was unaccountable," Newman recalled. More info

Saints Sergius and Bacchus were third-century Roman soldiers, Christian martyrs and gay men who loved each other. They were open about being a gay couple, but secretly Christian -- the opposite of many people today.

We'wha: Two-spirit Native American
We'wha was a two-spirit Native American Zuni who served as a cultural ambassador. She even visited a U.S. president in 1886.
Almost all Native American traditions recognized 3rd and sometimes even 4th genders. We'wha was the most famous "lhamana," the Zuni term for a male-bodied person who lived in part as a woman. More info
